Who we areAbout Stripe

Stripe is a financial infrastructure platform for businesses. Millions of companies—from the world’s largest enterprises to the most ambitious startups—use Stripe to accept payments, grow their revenue, and accelerate new business opportunities. Our mission is to increase the GDP of the internet, and we have a staggering amount of work ahead. That means you have an unprecedented opportunity to put the global economy within everyone’s reach while doing the most important work of your career.

About the team

Stripe Terminal helps our users extend their online presence to the physical world. The Terminal team’s mission is to make it as easy for businesses to accept in-person payments as the Stripe API has done for online payments. With Terminal, businesses can unlock in-person payments use cases that are right for their business model—whether it’s creating a superb retail experience, extending their website to a pop-up store, or enabling a mobile point-of-sale at their next event. Terminal is one of the fastest growing products at Stripe and we are expanding both globally and into new segments and verticals.

What you’ll do

We are investing in innovation to make it easier and faster for our customers to create their own unique, in-person commerce experience. To support that innovation we’re looking for a product manager to help lead and shape the future of our Terminal Device Platform - across device management, overall scalability and reliability, and creating the infrastructure for deploying applications to our Stripe payment devices at scale.
The Device Management PM is responsible for the lifecycle of our Terminal devices. You will touch everything from ordering and shipping readers to deploying readers to configuring readers to updating readers to monitoring and troubleshooting readers to getting readers back in the case of an issue. You’ll be responsible for every aspect of the lifecycle of the device from the backend systems all the way to the frontend that our users (both internally and externally) use on a daily basis.

Responsibilities

  • Set a motivating multi-year vision and then break it down into measurable, meaningful milestones for the Device Management, Logistics Engineering, and Foundations engineering teams. This includes creating buy-in, crafting roadmaps and OKRs, and navigating trade-offs
  • Partner with software and hardware engineers and cross functional partners to research, discover, and deeply understand what our internal developers need to unlock value for our end users and build solutions that our end users directly interact with.
  • Work closely with design teams to create and build dashboard interfaces enabling our users to manage their Terminal experience
  • Build empathy with our end users and the differentiation they aim to deliver for their merchants
  • Use metrics to inform your point of view and leverage analytics to measure success
  • Define product requirements and participate in sprint planning rituals to deliver against those requirements and the overall roadmap

Who you are

We’re looking for someone who meets the minimum requirements to be considered for the role. If you meet these requirements, you are encouraged to apply. The preferred qualifications are a bonus, not a requirement.

Minimum requirements

  • 5+ years of product management experience or equivalent
  • Demonstrated success and strong execution track record in building and sustaining scalable platform products.
  • Great interpersonal skills and strong verbal and written communication. You can collaborate and thrive in productive, healthy debate done with mutual respect and shared goals. You can make complex concepts accessible with clear communication.
  • Experience working on products that support mobile device management, as well as developer interfaces (APIs, SDKs) or building platforms that support both internal and external users.
  • Experience working with UX teams to design and build interactive user interfaces that help users intuitively understand and complete complex workflows and ordering processes.
  • Experience working closely with one or more engineering teams to collaboratively design technical solutions, evaluate trade offs and execute on an ambitious backlog.
  • Technically adept systems thinker, ideally with a Computer Science or equivalent degree or experience working as a software engineer.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience in 1 - 2 of the following areas are nice to have:
    • Networking (understanding basic networking like WiFi, DNS, etc.)
    • Exposure to logistics (moving/shipping physical objects)
    • Application/compute platforms (ex. PaaS. IaaS)
    • Building tools to facilitate deployment to developer platforms (such as Docker, AWS, Azure, etc.)
    • Payments and/or eCommerce
