TEGNA Inc. helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Together, we are building a sustainable future for local news.
TEGNA, a leading local media company, is looking for a Product Manager to manage the reporting and insights experience within our ad tech platform. Advertisers often seek answers to key questions: Did this work? Where should the next dollar go? Who did we reach? Your goal will be to enable them to find these answers themselves.
We have first-party audience and delivery data across 64 markets, which provides insights into local performance that larger platforms cannot offer. We emphasize storytelling with data, focusing on the data points that influence advertiser decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Insight Roadmap: Define what an advertiser should be able to learn from our data, and the sequence for delivering it.
- Experience Design: Own the reporting experience end to end, including how access is scoped across internal teams, agencies, and advertisers.
- Thought Leadership: Own the standard for what counts as an insight, and defend it in roadmap debates.
Core Product Ownership
These are some of the areas that you can expect to work in, but not exclusive
- Reporting Surfaces: Own the dashboards, views, and exports advertisers and internal teams work in.
- Insight Surfaces: Ship views that state the answer a buyer came for.
- Metric Definitions: One definition per metric, applied everywhere it appears, with the authority to close disputes.
- Applied AI: Use models to summarize performance, surface anomalies, and answer questions in plain language, and the tests that confirm the output holds.
- Data Contract: Own what the reporting layer promises for freshness and accuracy, and specify what engineering has to deliver to hold it.
Tactical Execution
- Agile Delivery: Write user stories and acceptance criteria the reporting engineering team can build from.
- UI UX: Design time lands here more heavily than anywhere else in the portfolio, most of it on presenting numbers with their associated uncertainty for spending decisions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner daily with Engineering, Client Services, Sales, Ad Operations, and Program Management.
Required Experience and Skills
Technical Expertise
- Digital advertising reporting and measurement. What advertisers and agencies need to see once a campaign runs, and what they decide with it.
- Metric definitions and semantic layers, and what breaks when one metric carries two definitions.
- How a number gets misread. Denominators, comparison sets, and uncertainty.
- CTV, streaming, and local media dynamics are a plus.
Professional Experience
- 5+ years of product management, with at least 3 on an advertising reporting or measurement product used by advertisers or agencies.
- Shipped a view that changed what a customer did and can name the decision.
- Changed a metric definition knowing it would break historical comparability, and managed what followed.
- Shipped a product surface with a model behind it, and can explain how they tested it.
Soft Skills
- Tells a story with data.
- Highly analytical. Interrogates the data before specifying the view, and holds engineering to a data quality standard.
- Cuts a view down to what a buyer will act on.
- Builds a prototype before writing a spec.
