The role of the Manager, Product Management is to lead discovery and delivery for large scale, complex products that enhance the CarMax shopping and ownership experience. Specifically, this role is responsible for creating a product vision and strategy that supports the Program strategy. In addition, this role is key to setting and achieving objectives and key results within their Product by driving a highly dynamic and multi-disciplinary team to successfully prioritize opportunities and identify actionable solutions.
The person successful in this role will maintain a focus on applying technology to power the end to end customer experience, will work collaboratively across the business, including technology, design and operations, advocating for the product and articulating the customer and business value to multiple levels of the organization. This role requires a strong business acumen, encompassing market dynamics, strategic business considerations, and an intimate understanding of our customers needs, to inform product strategy.
Product Management
- Serve as a Product Manager on a team supporting a large scale, complex Product, driving the vision, strategy, user experience and performance metrics of the product. Ensure Product goals are aligned to the broader Program strategy and identify any contingencies that affect other products.
- Maintain and grow a strong knowledge of the following as it relates to your Product:
- Customer needs, painpoints and opportunities
- The business and the stakeholder needs and constraints
- The retail and automotive industries
- Market trends, competitive forces, challenges, and nuances
- How technology is being applied to power the customer experience from purchase through ownership
- Lead a cross-functional teams of engineers, designers, and business owners to drive the launch of a product. Make thoughtful decisions on the fly, constantly clearing roadblocks to getting your product live
- Lead a product discovery team to successfully prioritize opportunities and identify solutions for a large scale, complex Product
- Rationalize and manage an opportunity and product backlog; assign and manage priorities
- Accountable for solutioning and implementation of product launches. Define and monitor performance and metrics post-launch; identify and drive improvement opportunities
- Be an advocate for your product; articulate the customer and business value to leaders in the business. Develop compelling presentations and prototypes to communicate your product vision.
- Maintain strong relationships with key business partners to ensure product plans are aligned with company objectives/plans
Team and Process Development
- Stay updated with the latest in product management practices and mentor junior team members.
- Drive collaborative innovation amongst the organization, to identify unique solutions to complex problems
- Creates and enhances guidelines, policies, practices and procedures to drive improvements to internal product management and development processes; partner with other product managers to identify opportunity areas and determine best practices
- Play an active in external Product Management, UX, and/or Development communities
Qualifications and Requirements
- Passion for creating innovative solutions for consumers and a strong sense of empathy for our customers, and our associates
- Comfort switching between driving the strategy and going deep to solve complex problems
- A love of evangelizing your product - Strong verbal and written communication skills with demonstrated experience engaging and influencing across varying levels of leadership and evangelizing to stakeholders
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions, recommendations and drive actions
- High attention to detail including precise and effective customer communications and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities simultaneously
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelors degree or the equivalent experience in relevant field required, Master’s degree preferred
- 4+ years’ experience in digital Product Management or related field required. E-Commerce or FinTech experience a plus.
- 3+ years’ experience working in an agile environment preferred
- Technical background (software development experience) a plus
