PPG Aerospace Leadership is broadly seeking internal candidates across the enterprise to join our team and drive innovation in product development.

As Product Development Manager - Product Line Extension, you will lead and manage a team dedicated to new product development initiatives focused on both base retention and strategic growth. This role emphasizes people management and leadership, making it ideal for individuals who excel in guiding and developing teams. Approximately 9-10 direct reports (individual contributors only) will be under your supervision, with a focus on cross-functional collaboration and project execution. This position reports to the Associate Director of Aerospace Sealants and is located in our Aerospace Materials Science & Technology Center, Burbank, CA.

Key Responsibilities

  • People Leadership & Development: Supervise, mentor, and develop a team of 9-10 individual contributors, fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth.
  • Strategic Planning: Work with marketing and customers to identify gaps in current product offerings and future product needs. Translate these gaps into product design criteria and specifications.
  • Project Management: Manage project timelines and deliverables, capturing updates, conducting internal and external meetings, and reporting on progress.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with various departments to ensure the successful scale-up, qualification, and commercialization of new materials and product line extensions.

Qualifications

  • Educational Background: Ph.D. in Materials Science, Polymer Science, Materials Chemistry, or Materials Engineering.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of experience in product development, preferably within sealants, adhesives, composites, polymeric materials, or coatings.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of product development and the ability to engineer solutions to meet customer requirements.
  • Leadership Skills: Some people leadership experience preferred (1-2 direct reports). Demonstrated ability to guide and mentor teams.
  • Citizenship: Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
