Procurement Specialist (Direct Material)About the RoleWe are looking for an experienced Procurement Specialist (Direct Material) to manage end-to-end sourcing, purchasing, and import operations for the Food & Starch businesses.
This role is responsible for sourcing direct materials from local and overseas suppliers, negotiating commercial terms, managing Purchase Orders, coordinating import and customs-clearance activities, and ensuring materials are delivered on time and in compliance with company procedures.
The ideal candidate has strong hands-on experience in SAP MM, international procurement, import logistics, trade finance documentation, and supplier coordination. This position is suitable for someone who is highly organized, detail-oriented, resilient, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.
Key ResponsibilitiesDirect Material Procurement- Manage end-to-end procurement activities from approved Purchase Requisition, RFQ, quotation comparison, supplier selection, Purchase Order issuance, order follow-up, and delivery completion.
- Source direct materials from qualified local and overseas suppliers.
- Negotiate pricing, payment terms, lead times, delivery conditions, and other commercial terms.
- Conduct quotation comparisons and cost analyses to support purchasing decisions.
- Maintain strong supplier relationships to ensure competitive costs, consistent quality, supply continuity, and on-time delivery.
- Identify alternative suppliers and sourcing options to reduce supply risks.
- Coordinate end-to-end import activities, including shipment planning, freight coordination, customs clearance, and inbound delivery.
- Work closely with overseas suppliers, freight forwarders, shipping agents, customs brokers, warehouses, and internal stakeholders.
- Monitor shipment schedules and proactively follow up on delayed or urgent deliveries.
- Ensure import activities comply with customs regulations and Incoterms 2020.
- Resolve shipment delays, customs issues, and documentation discrepancies.
- Prepare, review, and coordinate international trade finance documents, including Letters of Credit and Bank Guarantees.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, Bills of Lading, Certificates of Origin, insurance documents, and other shipping documents.
- Coordinate with Finance, banks, suppliers, and logistics partners to ensure document accuracy and timely payment processing.
- Maintain complete and accurate procurement and import records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Perform daily procurement transactions in SAP, particularly within the MM module.
- Create and manage Purchase Orders, amendments, order tracking, and procurement-related data.
- Ensure all purchasing transactions are accurate and comply with company procedures and approval requirements.
- Maintain accurate supplier, material, pricing, and purchasing information in the system.
- Support the use of digital and AI tools to improve procurement efficiency and data accuracy.
- Handle urgent and fast-track sourcing requests while maintaining procurement controls and quality standards.
- Expedite critical materials and shipments to prevent production interruptions or supply shortages.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders to prioritize urgent requirements.
- Communicate potential supply, delivery, or documentation risks and follow through until issues are resolved.
- Ensure procurement activities comply with company SOPs, procurement policies, approval requirements, and internal controls.
- Maintain complete documentation for internal and external audits.
- Support procurement, supplier, quality, and financial audits by providing accurate records.
- Identify procurement, supplier, import, and logistics risks and recommend appropriate solutions.
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, Logistics, International Business, Procurement, or a related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in direct material procurement, international purchasing, import operations, or logistics.
- Experience in the food industry, food ingredients, starch, chemicals, packaging, commodities, or manufacturing industries is preferred.
- Proven experience working with local and overseas suppliers.
Skills Required
- Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Supply Chain, Logistics, International Business, Procurement, or related field.
- At least 5 years of experience in direct material procurement, international purchasing, import operations, or logistics.
- Hands-on experience with SAP MM (procurement transactions, PO creation and management).
- Experience coordinating import logistics, customs clearance, and compliance with Incoterms 2020.
- Experience preparing and coordinating international trade finance documents (Letters of Credit, Bank Guarantees, commercial invoices, Bills of Lading).
- Proven experience managing local and overseas suppliers and negotiating commercial terms.
- Experience in the food industry, food ingredients, starch, chemicals, packaging, commodities, or manufacturing industries.
- Ability to handle urgent sourcing, expedite shipments, and manage supply continuity under pressure.
- Maintain accurate procurement and import records for audit and compliance purposes.
- Familiarity or willingness to support digital and AI tools to improve procurement efficiency.
