The Role

Inside the Role

Enable the manufacturing of heavy and medium duty trucks by developing top-notch total supplier performance for assigned commodities. Provide leadership to a cross-functional team focused on securing best total landed cost, zero parts shortages and world-class quality for assigned commodities. Develop and manage the creation of objectives and implementation of strategic regional and global plans for commodity portfolios. Develop supplier relationships that gain participation and commitment to new product development, design, testing and production implementation. Support supplier development of improved operations, adopting new technologies and overall supplier performance improvement for DTNA and its customers. Manage the negotiations of comprehensive programs within the assigned supplier base. Develop and manage suppliers which strengthen DTNA's competitive position in the industry, as well as the diversity of DTNA’s suppliers.

What you Drive at DTNA

  • Manage commodity responsibilities for stamping and fabrication components for DTNA , including raw material management for aluminum, steel, and plastic.

  • Fulfill general leadership tasks for team of 5 Buyers (one located at TBB office) and 3 Material Planners. Develop workforce in terms of supplier negotiation knowledge, materials knowledge, supplier development knowledge, as well as soft skills and strategic competence including application of all TT/G4 tools and processes. Continuous organizational and staff development of all levels of employees. Ensure employees’ schedules are free to attend required and recommended training.

  • Develop and implement individual supplier and overall commodity improvement plans designed to improve overall supplier performance across all dimensions, including procurement, delivery, and quality.  Build supplier and commodity resiliency/capacity to help ensure DTNA is getting the best total landed cost from our supply base, taking all contributing factors into account. Develop and implement effective negotiation and long-term supplier management strategies to reach optimal total landed cost.

  • Compliance: Ensure all processes are followed and all documentation is complete and compliant per established processes and requirements. Ensure all sourcing decisions are compliant with all defined processes and total supplier performance is taken into account at the time of sourcing, as well as evaluated on an ongoing basis to ensure suppliers meet performance expectations across all dimensions. 

  • Ensure all contracts and internal workflows are completed in a timely manner to avoid impacts to downstream team members, partners and suppliers.  Escalate issues as needed and ensure metrics are measured and tracked appropriately within the team to drive action within the team and/or by others, including to upstream partners, as needed.

  • Ensure balance of focus on tactical and strategic activities within the team and as the leader.  Ensure that for assigned commodities all parts are getting to plants on time and with good quality to support production and prevent shortages, trucks in offline, and/or other manufacturing issues caused by late or missing parts. 

  • Continuous improvement – evaluate processes, tools, systems, meetings and communications on an ongoing basis to find ways to work more efficiently and effectively, both internally and externally.  Collaborate with other TT/GN teams to improve TT/GN processes and ensure all teams are collectively meeting and/or exceeding overall group targets.

Knowledge You Should Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university/college with 8+ years of related experience

  • At least 2 years of group leader, supervisory or project lead experience required

  • Detailed knowledge of economic issues affecting business decisions required

  • Understanding of complex supply chains, cost structures and value drivers required

  • Understanding of commercial and supply management concepts required

  • Knowledge of supplier landscape (regional and global), materials and manufacturing technologies required

  • Strong competency for managing cross-functional teams required

  • An attached resume is required

Exceptional Candidates Might Have

  • Master’s degree preferred

  • Extensive Purchasing and/or Supply Management experience preferred

  • At least 5 years of experience in a related technical, operational, or financial field preferred
