Job Scope: The Process Engineer is generally responsible for performing all aspects for complete designs of process engineering assignments. This work will be performed under minimal supervision with a regular on‑site presence in Kingsport, TN
Primary responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
Develop and implement project specific process design execution plans to ensure efficient and effective project execution
Collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders, including all engineering disciplines, project managers, operations, and procurement
Participate in process safety design activities including PHAs, LOPAs, change management, and plant pre-startup safety planning
Forecast, monitor, and report actual progress for process discipline activities, including management of labor hours and completion of deliverables
Produce estimate level preliminary and final designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.
Develop and review process design improvements in accordance with the project schedule and freeze dates
Provide input on deliverables such as plot layouts and 3D model reviews from other engineering disciplines
Ensure compliance of engineering deliverables with chemical industry standards, codes, and regulations
Conduct reviews and quality control checks to ensure compliance with design specifications and project requirements
Develop process deliverables including PFDs, P&IDs, and utility connection requests
Provide input to project line list, equipment list, and instrumentation spec sheets
Produce detail design calculations and drawings for the project.
Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others.
Review and check vendor information and other discipline deliverables for process engineering input.
Review fabrication drawings and other vendor submittals for conformance to engineering drawings and specifications.
Perform fieldwork necessary to gather process information, check tie-ins and provide construction support.
Effectively manage multiple projects with competing priorities
Education: Bachelor's degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or other from an accredited university is required.
Registration: Professional Engineering registration or CPIP certification is highly preferred.
Experience: Requires 3+ years of relevant industrial experience in chemical, petroleum, or biochemical process design engineering.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both).
Proficient in the use of Microsoft suite.
Working knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as Fluid Flow, AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPEPHASE, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Familiarity with specifications and installation details of equipment, instrumentation, and piping.
Ability to create accurate process engineering documents from the information provided in vendor equipment data and drawings.
Complete understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process engineering and design functions.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to sit, stand, or walk for long periods of time.
