Position Overview: The Process Engineer provides hands-on leadership and guidance in implementing continuous process improvements of existing processes with the goal of improving company turnaround and efficiency. Ensures the production processes are achieved in the most efficient manner consistent with safety, Health, Environmental, & quality requirements.

Essential Job Responsibilities:

  • Drive continuous improvement within MIL, utilizing Kaizen activities and lean tools.
  • Improve quality, turnaround time, and service costs through improvements in processing methods.
  • Facilitate problem-solving activities through objective and independent analysis and resolve technical issues.
  • Monitor, improve, and directly align quality objectives with the strategic direction of the organization.
  • Act as a liaison between quality and production to support effective communication across departments.
  • Enhance and monitor existing metrics, action plans, and countermeasures, and assist in the creation of new metrics or methods for identifying improvements as necessary.
  • Create and maintain internal documents governing job efficiency systems, throughput, and processing requirements.
  • Assist in the development and execution of corrective / preventative action and process improvement activities related to efficiency and turnaround.
  • Interface with all levels of personnel and continuously monitor the production floor to gain insight into potential bottlenecks.
  • Assist in production related difficulties as they pertain to customer specific projects by supporting inquiries, troubleshooting customer demands, and identifying appropriate solutions.
  • Communicate work-related issues regarding personnel and equipment to supervisory personnel.
  • Create a strong culture of safety, where all team members are contributing to a safe environment and processes that minimize risk to employee’s health and well-being. Make safety a priority every day. 
  • Ensure quality standards are met within all processes. Standards include customer requirements, AS9100D and NADCAP. Provide direct support to customers when needed. Improve processes and team capabilities to drive annual reductions in cost of poor quality.
  • Drive innovation and process improvement to meet or exceed corporate goals/KPIs or customer requirements. Determine root cause for actions that fall short of KPIs and deploy counter measures to correct.  
  • Using Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma techniques – continuously improve large run processes.  
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A self-starting individual with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
  • Exhibit effective prioritization skills in a fast-paced environment while upholding accuracy and consistency under short deadlines.
  • Acquire and maintain a comprehensive technical understanding of MIL's processing capabilities, quality system, general procedures, and applicable industry standard specifications.
  • Knowledge of metals, chemical processing, or other applicable products and processes a plus.
  • CAD experience a plus.
  • Knowledge of AS9100 standards and Nadcap preferred.
  • Near Visual Acuity (either corrected or uncorrected).
  • Capable of standing for extended periods of time and handling parts ranging in size and weight.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering, technology, material science, or relevant work experience in a technical or quality related field strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma methodology and Lean principles and tools is a plus.
  • Advanced arithmetic and GD&T skills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Advanced in Microsoft Office applications and ability to learn MIL's internal software. Advanced proficiency in Excel preferred.
  • Bilingual in Spanish/English is a plus.
  • Individual must be authorized to work in the U.S. 
  • This position requires access to ITAR-controlled information and materials. The successful candidate must meet all ITAR eligibility requirements, including being a U.S. person as defined by ITAR. 

Reports: The Process Engineer will report directly to the Lead Process Engineer with a dotted line to the Director of Operations and interface with the Metal Finishing Plant Manager.

Hours: Day shift.

Skills Required
