Role Overview

We are looking for a Process Engineer to develop and industrialize semiconductor fabrication processes, bridging Advanced R&D and Production.

This hands-on role focuses on dry etching (ICP-RIE), PECVD and metal evaporation. Working closely with R&D and cleanroom operators, you will improve device performance, process reproducibility, yield and throughput.

Key Responsibilities

1. Equipment Validation and Recipe Transfer

  • Define and run acceptance tests with the maintenance engineer.
  • Transfer and optimize recipes on new equipment.
  • Establish maintenance, cleaning and conditioning procedures.
  • Validate wafer-to-wafer and day-to-day reproducibility through extended runs.

2. Production Capacity and Yield

  • Prepare processes for larger wafers, batches and production volumes.
  • Improve process robustness, uniformity and yield.
  • Establish process monitoring, KPIs and Statistical Process Control (SPC) where relevant.
  • Investigate process drifts, yield losses and equipment issues; implement corrective and preventive actions.

3. Device Performance

  • Optimize fabrication parameters, particularly dry etching, using structured experimentation and scientific literature.
  • Correlate process data with structural, optical and electrical characterization to understand their impact on device performance.

4. R&D-to-Production Transfer

  • Turn R&D building blocks into stable, documented manufacturing processes.
  • Assess manufacturability, scalability and process risks.
  • Contribute to Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) and define appropriate controls.

How You Will Grow :

First 3 months: Learn Quandela’s fabrication and characterization flow and contribute to ongoing technical challenges.

Within 6 months: Take ownership of a tool, validate new equipment and support the transition to larger wafers and batches.

Within 1 year: Improve device performance, strengthen statistical process monitoring and support increasing production volumes.

Requirements

Requirements

Must-Have

  • PhD or equivalent research and development experience in semiconductor engineering, materials science, physics, micro/nanotechnology, electrical engineering or a related field.
  • Hands-on cleanroom experience in semiconductor fabrication, including dry etching, ideally ICP-RIE.
  • Experience with complementary processes such as PECVD, metal evaporation or lithography.
  • Understanding of optics and optoelectronics sufficient to connect fabrication parameters with device performance.
  • Ability to independently troubleshoot technical problems using experimental data, root-cause analysis and scientific literature.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills, with fluent written and spoken English.
  • Familiarity with Python for data analysis.

Appreciated Extra Skills

  • In-depth knowledge of plasma etching physics and diagnostics, such as actinometry, ion-flux measurements or residual gas analysis.
  • Experience with plasma-tool maintenance and process-drift correction.
  • Experience with industrialization, R&D-to-production transfer, PFMEA, control plans, SPC or Design of Experiments (DoE).
  • Experience with optoelectronic-device design and characterization.
  • Knowledge of III-V semiconductors, particularly AlGaAs photonic structures, resonators or VCSEL technologies.

Profile

You combine R&D curiosity and analytical skills with manufacturing rigor. You enjoy hands-on cleanroom work, data analysis and collaborative problem-solving, and can turn exploratory processes into controlled production workflows.

Benefits
  • Competitive salary, flexible based on your experience
  • Profit-sharing & company savings plan
  • 100% health coverage (Alan)
  • 50% transport reimbursement or sustainable mobility bonus
  • Meal vouchers (Swile), Gymlib fitness support
  • Childcare assistance & referral bonuses (€1,000–€2,000)
What we offer:
  • A meaningful role with real ownership, from day one
  • A team eager to collaborate and grow with you
  • Daily exposure to the entire quantum stack — from high-level APIs to low-level firmware, and everything in between.
Process
      1. Talent Acquisition interview (30–45 minutes).
      2. Hiring Manager interview (45 minutes).
      3. Technical interview and team meeting.
      4. Two reference checks.
      5. Offer.

(This process is provided for guidance only and may evolve depending on the roles)

At Quandela, we believe that the strength of our team is the plurality of experiences, perspectives, and journeys. We are committed to building a respectful, inclusive, and welcoming work environment. All applications are welcome.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree or PhD in Semiconductor Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Micro/Nanotechnology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor or photonic-device fabrication in a cleanroom environment
  • Strong knowledge of dry etching, ideally including hands-on ICP-RIE experience
  • Experience with complementary processes such as RIE, PECVD, physical vapor deposition, metal evaporation, or lithography
  • Understanding of how fabrication parameters influence material properties and device performance
  • Excellent attention to detail and rigorous experimental approach
  • Strong troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to independently investigate technical problems using experimental data and scientific literature
  • Strong communication and documentation skills
  • Fluent English, written and spoken
  • Experience in semiconductor manufacturing, pilot-line, or production environments
