SUMMARY: 

Function: Will develop and implement optimal, cost-effective manufacturing processes and methods in accordance with product specifications and quality standards; recommend and implement improvements to production processes, methods, and controls; coordinate manufacturing launch for new or revised products. At this level, work is typically performed under the guidance of a Sr. Engineer or Manager.

Scope: Focus on two of four manufacturing divisions and works under guidance of other Engineer(s).

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

The essential functions of this position require prioritizing and completing all assigned tasks in a timely and efficient manner, adjusting for changing priorities and availability of resources, and demonstrating initiative in identifying additional job-related tasks to be completed when time permits. The amount of time performing each function may vary day-to-day. All duties shall be performed in an efficient and professional manner in accordance with the company policies and under the direct supervision of a designated supervisor. 

1. Solution of technical problems in manufacturing and standardization of manufacturing equipment and processes.

2. Evaluation and design of manufacturing layout and facilities for low volume, pilot scale, and high-volume manufacturing. 

3. Design, development, and evaluation of formulations / processes required for new business opportunities at low volume and pilot scale.

4. Instruction of the usage and the maintenance method of the facilities and equipment to the manufacturing departments, especially in the introduction of new equipment.

5. Assessment and improvement of manufacturing processes to reduce manufacturing costs and enhance safety. 

6. Coordinates effectively with cross functional groups (Operations, Engineering, Supply Chain, and Quality) to drive root cause analysis, yield improvements, cost reduction, and process optimization.

7. In-depth analysis of statistical process control (SPC) and design of experiments (DOE). 

8. Utilize the SAP program to finalize and investigate production orders.

9. Complete full life cycle defect analysis and identification to ensure defect has been closed and will not be reproduced.

10. Initiate and/or review job hazard analysis for manufacturing processes. 

11. Provides technical presentations and reports as required for internal customers and departments. 

12. Performs tasks requiring a high degree of manual dexterity of MFG systems in a chemical environment.

13. Maintains 6S activities. 

14. Maintain appropriate records as required by ISO 9001 and 14001 and documentation for all work performed using internal software and systems.

15. Actively demonstrate high levels of employee engagement, coachability (e.g., receiving and incorporating business-related feedback and instruction with a positive and growth-oriented mindset) to achieve desired outcomes, 

16. Perform other necessary duties and tasks as requested.

Periodical

Attending annual and/or quarterly refresher courses related to hazardous waste management and handling, general safety, quality management, and environmental management. 

SUPERVISION: 

Receives: The Manufacturing Technology Manager or Assigned Engineer will provide supervision. Completed work is reviewed for accuracy, completeness and compliance with the established guidelines as needed.

Given: Will train and give guidance to Technicians as needed. 

Requirements

REQUIRED EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: 

External:

· B.S or M.S in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or other related field

· 2-4 years of experience required with a B.S degree or 0 years of experience with M.S degree.

Internal

· B.S or M.S degree with 1 year of experience as Process Engineer I and successful development and execution of duties & skills

REQUIRED PERSONAL SKILLS: 

1. Strong organizational skills to manage shifting priorities to meet business needs and deadlines.

2. Excellent communication skills 

3. Proficiency in MS Office programs. 

4. Fluency in English language both written and verbal.  

5. Ability to learn and adapt. 

6. Must be able to work in a team environment, but also work independently and be solution driven.

7. Ability to work for extended periods of time in a cleanroom environment with appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).

8. Must be comfortable working with chemicals including, but not limited to, corrosives and organic solvents. 

WORKING ENVIRONMENT: 

There is a potential for exposure to hazardous conditions and/or materials. This position requires employee to remain alert and observe surrounding areas and conditions to identify, recognize, and respond to potential obstacles, safety concerns, hazards, threats, property conditions requiring attention, unauthorized and/or dangerous persons, and emergencies. The work environment conditions described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this position. This position primarily works indoors or outdoors, in temperatures ranging from hot to cold, and in lighting that can be dim or bright. Performing work in a manufacturing environment can be physically demanding, with hazardous chemicals, gases, hot equipment, and liquids. May be exposed to distracting or uncomfortable sounds and noise levels. May occasionally work in high places, in a vehicle or equipment that is open, or in cramped workspaces. 

JOB RELATED PHYSICAL DEMANDS: 

· Perform duties in a safe and efficient manner while wearing appropriate and required personal protective equipment including steel-toed shoes. Follow all safety regulations and protocols. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of proper body mechanic/ergonomics and use correct body position/mechanics, tools, or work aids to work, move, maneuver, guide, or place objects or materials.

· Lift, transport, maneuver, and/or move materials and/or equipment weighing up to approximately 50 lbs. occasionally and 20 lbs. on a regular basis in the performance of regular duties in the office and/or in the field, sometimes over uneven terrain or around obstacles existing in a variety of work environments and inclement weather conditions.

· Work for extended periods of time in a stationary position (possibly up to 60 minutes or more without an opportunity to substantially change position) while consistently grasping, moving, and manipulating documents, supplies, computer equipment, and other tools and materials.

· Access confined spaces and/or areas that require physical positioning to access high and/or low spaces, possibly by frequently and consistently climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, stretching, or some other means of accessing the area). Frequently climb or traverse ladders and/or stairwells and staircases.

OTHER: 

Personnel must successfully complete a program of on-site classroom instruction or on-the-job training that teaches them to perform their duties in a way that ensures compliance with all job requirements. Prior experience and/or certification that can be verified will be considered in evaluating training requirements.

Must possess a reliable means of transportation to and from work.

  • Experience as Process Engineer I with at least 1 year (internal pathway)
