Job Descriptions:
Essential Function:
Lead R&D projects to improve high power Laser machining equipment and process productivity. In addition, when necessary, guide manufacturing engineering and maintenance teams in the plant on advanced Laser precision machining equipment related technical problems among other duties.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead and manage R&D projects to deliver high productivity process and high quality product
- Lead design of experiments (DOEs), conduct tests and measurements, and provide data driven recommendations
- Write technical reports, work instructions, and present status and results as required
- Engage with other engineering team members and provide cross functional support as needed
- Develop the specifications and oversee the implementation of the needed facilities and equipment required to perform experiments relevant to the position with safety integrated
- Recommend and use partnerships (universities, suppliers, other) as appropriate
- Provide recommendations and communicate best practices and learnings to the manufacturing engineering group and operations to improve production processes
- Assist in applying lean manufacturing concepts and 5S
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing professional networks; participating in professional societies.
- Performs all work related tasks in a safe manner and report any unsafe conditions to EHS and Management.
- Carries out special projects and all other appropriate and reasonable duties that may be assigned from time to time.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - PhD in physics, electrical engineering, chemistry or related technical field
- 5+ years of industry experience in laser technology/engineering
- Familiar with high-power solid-state lasers, high power fiber lasers, laser characterization methods and light matter interactions
- Industry experience with strong theoretical knowledge of laser machining is a plus
- Hands-on experience with design of experiment
- Ability to apply scientific principles to solve a wide range of practical problems
- Ability to work effectively either individually or in a team environment
- Ability to manage multiple projects with competing priorities under minimal supervision
- Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents
- Ability to utilize computer programing languages, simulation packages (Comsol), statistical software packages (JMP, Minitab) to assist problem solving and data analysis
