The Role

About this role

About this Role:
The BlackRock Private Markets Technology (BPMT) team within Aladdin Engineering is seeking a Director-level business architect and technology strategy leader to help scale BlackRock’s private markets platform across investment teams, product strategy, engineering, data, operations, and client-facing capabilities.

BPMT is dedicated to digitally transforming BlackRock’s private markets investment teams by translating business strategy into executable technology architecture, implementation roadmaps, data and operating-model requirements, and measurable adoption outcomes. The team partners deeply with Aladdin Product Management, Aladdin Engineering, Data, Operations, Risk, Implementation, and end business users to ensure private markets technology is designed, delivered, adopted, and run in a way that scales BlackRock’s business and strengthens Aladdin’s broader private markets platform.

The team sits at the intersection of Private Markets business and technology. BPMT acts as the connective tissue between investment professionals, product strategy, engineering delivery, data integrity, operating controls, analytics, reporting, and user adoption. The Director will be based in New York City and will directly face off with investment teams and product strategy teams to shape, prioritize, and implement technology solutions that support BlackRock’s private markets growth agenda.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Drive Private Markets Technology Strategy: Partner directly with investment teams, product strategy, engineering, data, operations, and risk stakeholders to translate private markets growth objectives into actionable technology roadmaps, capability maps, and implementation plans.
  • Serve as a Forward-Deployed Business Architect: Engage hands-on with end users to understand investment workflows, pain points, decision needs, operating constraints, and adoption barriers; convert those insights into practical technology solutions that scale across businesses.
  • Lead Cross-Functional Implementation: Own the connective operating model across Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, Risk, Implementation, and user communities so that dependencies, testing, readiness, controls, and go-live decisions are managed as one coherent system.
  • Shape Target-State Architecture: Define and steward private markets business architecture across deal pipeline, portfolio management, analytics, reporting, risk, data management, operational workflows, controls, lifecycle events, and whole-portfolio integration.
  • Translate Strategy into Execution: Create executive-ready decision frameworks, roadmaps, risk views, implementation plans, and operating-model recommendations that move complex initiatives from issue identification to measurable outcomes.
  • Scale Private Markets Data and Controls: Partner with data, operations, and engineering teams to improve data quality, establish scalable sources of truth, strengthen reconciliation and control frameworks, and enable self-service analytics and reporting for private markets users.
  • Champion Change Management and Adoption: Drive user engagement, readiness planning, communications, training, support models, and post-implementation value tracking so technology solutions are adopted and sustained in business-as-usual operations.
  • Protect Long-Term Platform Integrity: Challenge tactical approaches that undermine the target-state architecture while making pragmatic tradeoffs needed to deliver business value, manage risk, and maintain leadership confidence.

Qualifications:

  • Experience: 10+ years of experience in financial services, with a required background in private markets and a proven track record in technology, data, operations, business architecture, platform implementation, or investment-technology transformation roles.
  • Private Markets Expertise: Deep understanding of private markets investment workflows across one or more strategies such as Private Credit, Private Equity, Infrastructure, Real Estate, or multi-alternative strategies; experience with front-office, portfolio-management, investment-operations, or data workflows is required.
  • Technology and Transformation Background: Demonstrated experience delivering technology, data, or operating-model change in a complex investment-management environment, including business process reengineering, platform implementation, workflow automation, data transformation, or large-scale change management.
  • Strategic Business Architecture: Ability to translate ambiguous business objectives into capability maps, product requirements, architecture principles, execution plans, decision frameworks, success measures, and adoption criteria.
  • Investment-Team Credibility: Proven ability to engage directly with senior investment professionals and business leaders, understand their workflows and commercial priorities, and convert user feedback into scalable technology solutions.
  • Product and Engineering Partnership: Strong ability to partner with product strategy, engineers, data teams, and implementation specialists; familiarity with Aladdin, eFront, data platforms, analytics tooling, workflow technologies, or comparable investment-technology ecosystems is highly valued.
  • Executive Communication: Superior communication, facilitation, and presentation skills, with the ability to simplify complex topics, frame decisions, surface risks, and influence senior stakeholders across business and technology organizations.
  • Self-Starter Mindset: Entrepreneurial, proactive, and comfortable operating through ambiguity; able to develop a plan, build stakeholder engagement, drive execution discipline, and deliver outcomes without waiting for a fully defined playbook.
  • Analytical and Technical Fluency: Strong analytical orientation and comfort working with data, platforms, reporting, analytics, and technical teams. Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, BI tools, data platforms, or product configuration is a plus, but the role is primarily a business-architecture and transformation leadership role.

This is a unique opportunity for a senior private markets technology leader to help shape BlackRock’s next generation of private markets capabilities. The successful candidate will be a creative solutions architect who can work directly with business users, influence product and engineering strategy, and drive business transformation from idea through adoption.

What We Do

As the world’s largest asset manager, BlackRock partners with investors around the globe to help them (and those on whose behalf they invest) plan for life’s most important goals – like retirement, home ownership and their children’s education. Our clients range from governments, foundations and other large institutions to those investing on behalf of individuals, including firefighters, nurses, teachers and factory workers. Our breakthrough Aladdin® platform is BlackRock’s technological backbone, helping investors see and manage their whole portfolios in one place – from constructing investments to monitoring risk and executing trades. Used by hundreds of external institutions around the world, Aladdin combines powerful analytics and a common language to help investment teams make faster, more informed decisions across public and private markets. It’s a key part of our business and one of the reasons we’re trusted to manage more assets than any other investment manager today. At BlackRock, we challenge conventions and raise the bar for what’s possible. We harness technology to unlock new solutions, simplify complexity, and deliver investment strategies that meet people where they are.
