Summary Generated by Built In

Position Purpose

Own the end-to-end strategy, roadmap, and performance of private brand roofing and adjacent building products. This role emphasizes product P&L ownership, market-backed innovation, and disciplined portfolio management — distinct from technical services and analytics — to deliver differentiated, profitable growth across channels.

Key Outcomes (12–18 months)

  • Launch 3–5 new/renovated private brand SKUs in roofing under TopShield (or successor brands) with targeted gross margin uplift of 200–300 bps.
  • Improve SKU productivity: rationalize bottom-quartile items; achieve ≥15% YoY revenue growth in prioritized categories.
  • Establish supplier scorecards and dual-sourcing strategies that reduce COGS variance by ≥5% while maintaining quality.
  • Implement data-driven price ladders and value tiers that increase win rate versus national brands, documented via quarterly business reviews.

Core Responsibilities

Product Strategy & Portfolio Management
  • Define category strategies for roofing membranes, underlayments, sealants, fasteners, and accessories; set clear roles-of-line (good/better/best).
  • Own product roadmaps, business cases, and stage-gate deliverables from concept through commercialization.
  • Run quarterly line reviews: SKU rationalization, lifecycle stage decisions, and margin mix optimization.
Commercialization & Pricing
  • Develop price architecture, pack/size strategy, and channel-specific assortments; partner with Sales on launch playbooks.
  • Plan and execute new product launches (NPI) including positioning, claims, and merchandising assets; measure post-launch success (sell-in/sell-through).
  • Lead cross-functional S&OP inputs: demand planning assumptions, cannibalization, and promo calendars.
Supplier & Quality Leadership
  • Select and negotiate with manufacturers; drive total cost, terms, and service-level agreements.
  • Partner with Quality to define specifications, first-article approvals, and ongoing performance monitoring.
  • Maintain continuity plans (dual-source/backup tooling); manage cost engineering and VA/VE initiatives.
Insights & Analytics (Product Performance)
  • Use advanced Excel/BI to analyze contribution margins, price elasticity, and market share; translate insights into actions.
  • Create competitive benchmarking vs. national brands; refresh claims and packaging to strengthen differentiation.
  • Publish monthly KPI pack: revenue, GM%, mix, on-time launch, supplier OTIF, warranty trendlines.
Governance & Compliance
  • Ensure SDS availability and accuracy and coordinate code/standards approvals in partnership with Technical Services (supporting, not owning).
  • Support warranty policy definition; track field feedback to drive corrective actions and product updates.

Role Differentiators vs. Technical Services & Analytics

  • P&L and portfolio ownership (GM%, mix, productivity) rather than primarily training/events or case-by-case technical support.
  • Strategic supplier selection and contract negotiation vs. transactional warranty processing.
  • Market-backed innovation and commercialization leading launches vs. primarily monitoring code submissions and renewals.
  • Price architecture and merchandising leadership vs. regional sales enablement ownership.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5+ years in product management for building products; direct experience in roofing materials (membranes, underlayments, sealants, or fasteners).
  • Demonstrated success launching private brand products and driving margin expansion.
  • Advanced Excel proficiency (pivot tables, Power Query/Power Pivot) and familiarity with BI tools.
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and cross-functional leadership skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA or relevant master’s degree.

  • Experience with roofing supply distribution and S&OP processes.
  • Knowledge of building codes and standards relevant to roofing (coordination with Technical Services).

Travel & Working Conditions

  • Travel 25–40% for supplier visits, factory trials, product shows, and branch launches.
  • Standard office environment; occasional job-site visits and sample handling up to 45 lbs.

Core Competencies

  • Business Acumen
  • Category & Portfolio Management
  • Supplier Negotiation
  • Data & Financial Analysis
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Execution Excellence

What We Do

SRS Distribution is the fastest growing distributor of building products in the United States. Our talented team of industry experts focus all efforts on delivering the highest quality products and services to bring true value to every contractor. This commitment is evident in two exclusive SRS offerings developed with customers in mind: TopShield, our premium product line covering any roofing project end-to-end, and Roof Hub, our real-time project management tool that offers operational insights and updates on the go or from your desk. As a people-first company, SRS offers highly motivated and engaged employees a career path in an entrepreneurial inclusive culture where the corporate office works for the field and not the reverse. Not only does SRS care deeply about customers and employees, but also the communities in which we operate. Raise the Roof Foundation supports veterans and military families, disaster relief efforts and I local assistance for children and families in crisis. SRS is a private company led by a management team of industry veterans who understand the needs of the professional roofing contractor. SRS has grown rapidly through acquisition and the opening of multiple new locations since our February 2008 inception. SRS enjoys strong investor and banking relationships and a solid balance sheet to enable us to remain a high-growth company in the years ahead. SRS also aims to become the most attractive distribution partner to our many valued suppliers by forming collaborative relationships built on trust and friendship that date back many decades. SRS has a very narrow product focus with roofing making up almost 95% of sales. This focus allows us to enjoy a broader and deeper inventory of roofing products at each location than many of our competitor
