About the Platform Governance Team & Your Role
The Platform Governance team plays a critical role in ensuring the stability, performance, and long-term health of the Commerce platform. We focus on proactive measures, bottlenecks identification, tooling, and processes to maintain the integrity and scalability of our infrastructure and applications and platform in general. Our work directly impacts the experience of thousands of merchants and millions of shoppers worldwide.
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Lead Software Engineer with a strong focus on performance and scalability for platform governance and limits enforcement. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing, building, and deploying solutions to proactively manage and enforce platform limits, ensuring the long-term stability and fair use of resources.

We embrace a flexible work culture. This role is open to remote work across the US. For candidates based in the Austin, TX Metro area, this role follows a hybrid work model, required three days per week in the office to balance focused individual work and meaningful in-person collaboration.
What You’ll Do
 
  • Collaborate and Advise: You’ll work closely with engineering teams to understand system architecture, identify critical performance paths, and provide data-driven recommendations for improvements
  • Enhance Methodologies: You’ll contribute to the continuous improvement of load testing methodologies, tools, and best practices within the Platform Governance team
  • Document and Communicate: You’ll thoroughly document and explain test plans, results, and insights
  • Optimize Performance: You’ll drive the optimization of identified platform bottlenecks
  • Enforce Limits: You’ll create limit enforcement mechanisms for various platform entry points

Who You Are
 
  • You have 7+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer, with a history of contributing to successful software projects and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with a high degree of autonomy
  • You have exceptionally strong problem-solving and debugging capabilities
  • You have experience in the ecommerce domain, understanding store operations, catalog management, checkout flows, etc.
  • You are proficient in PHP and at least Go or Scala programming languages, with a willingness to learn and work across all three
  • You have experience with OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and ELK
  • You are familiar with cloud platforms (e.g., Google Cloud Platform, AWS, Azure) and have experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures
  • You have experience with continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • You have exceptional communication skills, and are capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical).
  • You demonstrate a high degree of drive and initiative, proactively seeking out challenges and solutions.
  • You possess a strong growth mindset, eager to learn new technologies, adapt to evolving challenges, and continuously improve.
     
Bonus Points
 
  • You have experience in scalability and performance testing, with an understanding of load generation, monitoring, and analysis.
  • You have experience building and maintaining automation for testing, data collection, and reporting.
  • You have hands-on expertise with load testing tools, specifically K6 and beyond (e.g JMeter, Blazemeter, etc)

The exact salary will be dependent on the successful candidate’s location, relevant knowledge, skills, and qualifications.
