The Role
JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking a Principal Wind Engineer with deep expertise in wind resource assessment, energy yield analysis, and project development advisory. This role acts as a Regional Subject Matter Expert (SME) within our Technical Advisory Services business, leading strategic engagements with clients throughout the full project lifecycle from greenfield development to operational optimization. The ideal candidate will bring at least 10 years of experience in wind energy, particularly in wind flow modeling, energy production estimates, uncertainty analysis, and performance benchmarking of operational wind farms. This role requires a strong client-facing mindset, technical leadership, and the ability to influence key decisions in project feasibility, design optimization, and asset performance.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Serve as Regional SME driving technical excellence in the team, and across projects.
  • Support clients during pre-investment, development, optimization, construction and operational phases, including site selection, turbine layout optimization, loss & uncertainty analysis, and performance benchmarking.
  • Provide expert review and sign-off on Energy Yield Assessments (EYAs), site suitability studies, and long-term energy forecasts using industry-standard software such as Openwind and CFD tools.
  • Lead internal training programs, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to global knowledge-sharing platforms to elevate team capabilities.
  • Collaborate closely with commercial, legal, and project management teams to develop client proposals, shape scopes of work, and deliver high-quality advisory services.
  • Represent the organization in industry events, client meetings, technical panels, and standard committees as needed.
  • Drive innovation by developing new methodologies, tools, and processes to improve accuracy, efficiency, and value of wind technical assessments.
  • Conduct peer reviews of internal deliverables to ensure consistency, technical quality, and alignment with best practices.
  • Author technical whitepapers, industry articles, and thought leadership content to reinforce UL Solutions' brand and expertise.
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support internal QA/QC processes.
  • May perform site visits and client-facing activities across APAC or globally, with moderate travel (10-20%) expected.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Wind Energy, Mechanical, Civil, or Renewable Energy Engineering (or related discipline).
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant experience in Wind industry with a strong focus on wind resource and energy analysis, preferably within a technical advisory, IPP, or consultancy environment.
  • Proficiency in wind modeling and analysis software (e.g., Openwind, WindFarmer, WAsP, WindPro, CFD tools).
  • Solid understanding of meteorological measurements, SCADA data analysis, and operational performance assessments.
  • Demonstrated experience in client engagement, technical report writing, and leading complex advisory scopes.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to translate complex technical content into clear, actionable insights for clients.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and entrepreneurial mindset, with a passion for accelerating the clean energy transition.
