Job Overview:
This Principal Architect partners closely with engineering teams to design and deliver end-to-end solutions for Metro Billing platforms. The role combines strategic architectural leadership with hands-on technical engagement, including reviewing application code, translating business requirements into scalable technical solutions, and guiding engineering teams through implementation decisions. Success requires balancing modernization opportunities with the realities of legacy platforms, proprietary integrations, and operational constraints.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead architectural design decisions and provide technical leadership to ensure scalable and maintainable end-to-end solutions across multiple systems and Metro Billing capabilities.
  • Develop and maintain solution designs from concept through deployment, ensuring alignment with architecture standards, engineering best practices, and business requirements.
  • Partner closely with engineering teams to review application code, validate implementation approaches, and provide technical guidance throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Translate business initiatives and requirements into scalable technical solutions while identifying implementation risks, dependencies, and opportunities for modernization.
  • Balance innovation with platform stability by recommending where new technologies and approaches should be adopted and where existing solutions should be maintained.
  • Own overall architecture for multiple capabilities, collaborating on frameworks, standards, and reusable components to support enterprise technology consistency.
  • Engage with business stakeholders during project ideation to define solution options and support business case development prior to project initiation.
  • Communicate solution designs through architecture diagrams, technical documentation, and design reviews using tools such as Lucid and Confluence.
  • Collaborate with Agile delivery teams using Jira to support planning, execution, and solution governance.
  • Coach and mentor engineers through architecture discussions, design reviews, and technical decision-making while promoting engineering best practices.
  • Evaluate and leverage AI-assisted engineering tools, such as Claude, to improve engineering productivity where appropriate.
  • Also responsible for other duties/projects as assigned by business management as needed.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree plus 7 years of related work experience OR Advanced degree with 5 years of related experience (Required)
  • Acceptable areas of study include Computer Science, Engineering or a related field. (Required)
  • 7-10 years Progressive experience in software engineering/enterprise architecture/technology leadership across multiple products, systems and/or platforms coupled with strong business acumen and executive presence. (Required)
  • 7-10 years Experience working in solutions design and enterprise architecture delivering IT solutions. (Required)
  • 7-10 years Experience in Enterprise applications, PLM, middle-tier services, database, storage, distributed computing, virtualization and/or application technology. (Required)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Required:

  • Strong understanding of enterprise software development
  • Experience designing and supporting complex billing, transaction processing, or telecommunications platforms.
  • Ability to analyze and understand complex legacy codebases and proprietary application components.
  • Strong ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Experience creating architecture diagrams and technical documentation using Lucid or similar tools.
  • Experience using Jira and Confluence in Agile software development environments.
  • Experience coaching software engineers through architecture, design, and code review activities.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted software development tools, such as Claude or similar coding assistants.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting Billing or other telecommunications billing platforms.
  • Experience architecting high-volume transaction processing or enterprise billing solutions.
  • Hands-on experience with C and C++ application development.
  • Experience modernizing legacy enterprise applications while maintaining operational stability.
  • Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity.

Base Pay Range: $123,900 - $223,600

Corporate Bonus Target: 20%
