We are seeking an experienced Principal Systems & Cyber Security Specialist to join our growing team and play a key role in shaping the cyber security posture of some of Australia's most important Defence capabilities.

In this highly visible role, you will provide expert systems and cyber security leadership across a diverse portfolio of Defence programs, supporting security outcomes throughout the capability lifecycle. Working closely with engineering teams, program leadership and Defence stakeholders, you will help ensure complex systems are secure, resilient and compliant with Defence security requirements.

You will leverage your deep understanding of both systems engineering and cyber security principles to translate complex technical requirements into the artefacts, evidence and assurance activities required to achieve and maintain Defence security authorisation.

The role will require regular travel and direct engagement with Defence stakeholders and customers.

Key Responsibilities

• Act as a trusted cyber security advisor to internal program teams and Defence stakeholders.
• Influence system and solution design activities to achieve secure-by-design and cyber-resilient outcomes.
• Lead and support Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation (CSAA) activities across assigned Defence programs.
• Partner with systems engineering and project delivery teams to integrate security requirements throughout the capability lifecycle.
• Develop and maintain security documentation and assurance artefacts required to achieve and sustain Defence security authorisation.
• Drive security governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) outcomes in alignment with Defence security frameworks and program requirements.
• Lead cyber security risk management activities and provide trusted risk advice to program and engineering leadership.
• Provide subject matter expertise on the PSPF, ISM, and DSPF.
• Engage with Defence stakeholders and authorisation authorities to progress security authorisation activities.
• Support business development, bid, and capture activities through cyber security expertise and compliance guidance.
• Mentor and provide technical leadership to security practitioners across the business.

Skills, Experience and Qualifications

• 8+ years' experience in cyber security, systems engineering, or a related discipline, preferably within Defence or the Defence industry.
• Strong knowledge and practical application of the Protective Security Policy Framework (PSPF), Defence Security Principles Framework (DSPF), and ACSC Information Security Manual (ISM).
• Demonstrated experience leading Cyber Security Assessment and Authorisation (CSAA) activities and developing security artefacts, including SSPs, SSP-As, SRMPs, IRPs, CMPs, SAPs, and POAMs.
• Experience applying security governance, risk, and compliance (GRC) principles within complex programs and operating environments.
• Ability to translate complex technical and cyber security risks into clear, actionable advice for engineering, program, and customer stakeholders.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with experience engaging Defence customers, authorisation authorities, and multidisciplinary delivery teams.
• Experience supporting business development, bid, and capture activities is highly regarded.
• Relevant industry certifications are highly regarded, including CISSP, CISM, CISA, SABSA, or IRAP Assessor.
• Excellent written communication skills, with a demonstrated ability to produce high-quality security documentation and assurance artefacts.
