Summary Generated by Built In

Ready to Be a Titan?

At ServiceTitan, we build the operating system for the trades — a comprehensive platform that powers scheduling and dispatch, CRM, payments, financing, reporting, and more for thousands of service businesses across the U.S. and beyond. We apply Machine Learning and AI throughout to automate workflows, surface insights, and help our customers run better businesses. We're a quality-driven engineering organization working on the cutting edge of the .NET platform — designing systems for scale, solving hard technical problems, and holding a high bar for craft. If that's the kind of work that excites you, we'd love to hear from you.
We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help us dream up and build the next generation of ServiceTitan. In this role, you’ll be a foundational voice in our technical strategy, acting as a steward for the long-term health and evolution of our entire platform. We’re looking for someone who enjoys thinking years ahead—designing the resilient systems that will support the trades for a decade to come. This seat offers a unique balance of high-level organizational influence and a deep, ongoing connection to the craft; you’ll stay active in the codebase (approx. 40-50%) to help our squads navigate complex scaling puzzles and distributed systems challenges. Your expertise in the .NET ecosystem will be the cornerstone of how we continue to innovate and raise the talent bar across the industry.

What You’ll Do

  • Define Global Architecture: Set the long-term vision for our .NET microservices architecture, ensuring it can support massive scale, AI-driven automation, and multi-tenant complexity.

  • High-Stakes Problem Solving: Act as the "special forces" for R&D, diving into the most critical performance bottlenecks or architectural failures and leading the team to a solution.

  • Influence the Roadmap: Partner with executive leadership to determine the "art of the possible," ensuring our technical capabilities stay ahead of market demands.

  • Set the Standard for AI: Lead the integration of AI-assisted development and LLM APIs into our production environment, establishing the safety, security, and quality guardrails for the entire org.

  • Community & Brand: Represent ServiceTitan Engineering in the broader .NET community through open-source contributions, speaking, or technical blogging, helping us attract the top 1% of talent.

What You’ll Bring

  • A Legacy of Impact: 20+ years of professional engineering experience, with a proven history of being the primary technical lead on multiple "business-critical" systems that have successfully scaled to millions of users.

  • Mastery of the .NET Ecosystem: Expert-level C# knowledge with a deep understanding of the .NET runtime, memory management, and high-performance optimizations. You are the mentor that Staff-level engineers look to for technical clarity.

  • Distributed Systems Visionary: Deep hands-on experience with the trade-offs of distributed state, eventual consistency, and global concurrency. You’ve successfully navigated major architectural shifts (e.g., Monolith to Microservices) at enterprise scale.

  • Strategic Partnership: Experience collaborating directly with VPs and Directors to translate a multi-year business roadmap into a technical execution plan. You can communicate technical risks to non-technical stakeholders with clarity and empathy.

  • Operational Excellence: A "Service Ownership" mindset. You have the "battle scars" from managing major production incidents and the foresight to build the resilience patterns that prevent them.

  • Force Multiplier: A track record of mentoring the next generation of technical leaders. You have raised the talent bar of an entire organization through architectural reviews, "Golden Path" creation, and engineering standards.

  • Education: B.S., M.S., or PhD in Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent elite-level practical experience).

AI Skills & Tooling

We are leaning into the future of AI-assisted development and love to work with engineers who do the same:

  • AI as a Teammate: Hands-on experience leveraging AI coding tools (e.g., Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) to accelerate development, improve code quality, and streamline debugging workflows.

  • Engineering Judgment: Ability to critically evaluate and integrate AI-generated output, applying sound engineering judgment to ensure correctness, security, and maintainability.

  • AI Integration: Experience integrating LLM APIs (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic) or AI services into production applications.

  • A Growth Mindset: Eagerness to stay current with the rapidly evolving AI tooling landscape and champion best practices for AI-assisted development within the team.

  • Champion an AI-Forward Culture: Set the standard for how AI-assisted development is adopted and practiced across the R&D org, establishing guardrails, sharing best practices, and inspiring engineers at every level to integrate AI tooling with craft and intentionality.

Be Human With Us:
Being human isn’t about checking every box on a list. It’s about the experiences we have, people we meet, and the perspectives we share. So, if you have the skills but are hesitant to apply because of your background, apply anyway. We need amazing people like you to help us challenge the conventional and think differently about the problems that we’re solving. We’re in this together. Come be human, with us.

Use of AI Technology:

We use technology, including automated and AI-assisted tools, to support certain aspects of our recruitment process. These tools are designed to improve efficiency and enhance the candidate experience. AI tools are not used to make hiring decisions; all hiring decisions are made by our hiring teams.

What We Offer:

When you join our team, you’re not just accepting a job. You’re making a career move. Here’s how we’ll support you in doing some of the most impactful work of your career:

  • Flextime, recognition, and support for autonomous work: Flexible time off with ample learning and development opportunities to continue growing your career. We offer a comprehensive onboarding program, leadership training for Titans at all levels, and other programs and events. Great work is rewarded through Bonusly, peer-nominated awards, and more.
  • Holistic health and wellness benefits: Company-paid medical, dental, and vision (with 100% employer paid options and 90% coverage for dependents), FSA and HSA, 401k match, and telehealth options including memberships to One Medical.
  • Support for Titans at all stages of life: Parental leave and support, up to $20k in fertility services (i.e. IUI and IVF), surrogacy, and adoption reimbursement, on demand maternity support through Maven Maternity, free breast milk shipping through Maven Milk, pet insurance, legal advisory services, financial planning tools, and more.
