The Challenge
We're looking for a talented and passionate Principal Software Engineer to join a geographically distributed agile product team. Principal Engineer is responsible for new software application development and integration work, including modification and optimization of code with a focus on performance. This person will influence and execute the technical strategy and roadmap for platform, products, making decisions on technologies that are robust and scalable.
Your Mission
As a Principal Software Engineer specializing in design solutions, you will be responsible for leading the development of scalable, reliable, and high-performance systems. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to define and deliver technical solutions that align with business objectives. This is a hands-on role, requiring extensive experience in system design and architecture and is responsible for supporting the development of modern backend coding structure that is progressive and responsive.
Design & Architecture: Lead the design and implementation of high-availability, scalable, and performant systems. Architect solutions to meet business and technical requirements.
Database Expertise: Utilize your expertise in both SQL and NoSQL databases to design data models, write optimized queries, and ensure robust data storage strategies. Work with teams to evaluate and implement the right database technologies based on system needs.
Hands-On Development: Act as a hands-on engineer, writing code, reviewing pull requests, and providing technical mentorship to junior and senior engineers.
Technical Leadership: Provide direction and mentorship to engineering teams, helping them solve complex problems and making key technical decisions.
Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to ensure alignment and successful execution of technical initiatives.
Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor system performance and implement improvements, focusing on scalability and efficiency.
Continuous Learning: Stay up to date with emerging technologies and industry trends, driving innovation within the team and the company.
You Are
You are someone who understands the benefits of microservices but also understands the challenges while collaborating closely with Product Managers, Architects and Designers. You can accomplish multiple sophisticated software development tasks and remain engaged with the latest technological trends and understand operational challenges to continually evolve the application delivery process and platform components.
Your Experience Includes:
- Bachelor’s OR Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical or business field
- 9+ years of full software development lifecycle, with experience in Agile development (Scrum, XP, Pair Programming)
- Extensive Experience in System Design: Proven experience in designing and building complex, scalable systems, with a strong understanding of software architecture patterns, such as microservices, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
- Programming Skills: Proficiency in Java programming language, RESTful Service and the Spring ecosystem. Strong understanding of software development best practices, including version control, testing, and CI/CD pipelines.
- Embraces a ‘shift-left’ mindset by integrating testing and quality early in development lifecycle and follows an API-first approach to design scalable and maintainable services.
- SQL & NoSQL Expertise: Advanced knowledge of SQL (e.g., SQL, PostgreSQL, etc.) and NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra etc.) databases, including performance tuning, schema design, and query optimization. Also, hands-on experience in managing and analyzing large-scale using platforms such as Databricks.
- Real-time message expertise: Solid experience in designing, implementing and maintaining kafka-based systems for real-time message processing, stream processing, and even-driven architectures. Proficient in Kafka producers/consumers.
- Cloud & DevOps Experience: Experience with cloud platforms (Azure) and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes). Knowledge of infrastructure as code is a plus.
- Experience in exploring and leveraging AI tools to enhance development efficiency is highly valued. Familiarity with tools like GitHub Copilot or similar AI technologies for coding, data analysis, or improving productivity is a strong plus
- Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading technical teams, providing mentorship, and driving engineering excellence.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to tackle complex technical challenges and make sound decisions.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
