WHY THIS ROLE IS IMPORTANT TO US

SimCorp is establishing a Foundational APIs capability to make core business data and functionality easier to access securely, consistently, and reliably across our products and solutions.

As a Principal Software Engineer, you will play a central role in shaping this capability. You will help define and build stable, reusable API contracts that enable product experiences, integrations, workflows, clients, and approved AI solutions to interact with SimCorp’s business capabilities without needing to understand the complexity of the underlying systems.

This is not a role focused only on defining standards or producing architecture. You will work hands-on with engineers, architects, product leaders, domain experts, and existing platform teams to turn technical direction into production-quality software. You will help the team reuse existing API infrastructure and domain capabilities where appropriate, progressively abstract legacy implementations, and avoid creating unnecessary layers or duplication.

You will join a newly established team in India and help deliver its first production capabilities. The role provides an opportunity to influence architecture, engineering practices, technical direction, and the way API capabilities are developed and adopted across SimCorp.

WHAT YOU WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR

• Lead the technical design and implementation of SimCorp’s Foundational APIs.
• Work hands-on with engineering teams to build secure, scalable, reliable, and maintainable services using C#/.NET and Microsoft Azure.
• Translate real consumer and business needs into focused API capabilities with clear outcomes and measurable release criteria.
• Design stable and reusable API contracts that represent meaningful business capabilities rather than exposing the complexity of underlying systems.
• Collaborate with domain experts to establish clear and consistent meaning for shared concepts such as portfolios, positions, transactions, cash, instruments, and settlement information.
• Evaluate and make pragmatic decisions across REST, GraphQL, messaging, and other integration approaches based on the needs of each capability.
• Make API behavior explicit across business dates, data freshness, pagination, filtering, precision, missing information, partial results, and error handling.
• Design for distributed-system concerns including latency, partial failures, retries, idempotency, concurrency, resilience, and source-system availability.
• Help separate stable consumer contracts from underlying implementations so that systems can evolve or be progressively replaced without unnecessary consumer impact.
• Assess and reuse existing API frameworks, gateways, services, integration solutions, and domain capabilities before introducing new abstractions or infrastructure.
• Work with legacy systems and supported interfaces, using adapters and incremental modernization patterns where appropriate.
• Contribute directly to critical implementation areas, technical spikes, reference implementations, automated tests, deployment pipelines, and complex problem resolution.
• Establish and promote engineering practices covering clean code, automated testing, contract testing, compatibility validation, security, observability, CI/CD, and production readiness.
• Review architecture, technical designs, and code, providing constructive feedback that raises the engineering quality of the team.
• Lead by example, helping engineers decompose complex problems into incremental, testable, and releasable capabilities.
• Create reusable implementation patterns, templates, documentation, and examples that make it easier for other teams to contribute consistently.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Architecture, Platform, Security, Data, and domain engineering teams across SimCorp.
• Communicate technical decisions, trade-offs, dependencies, limitations, and risks clearly to engineering and non-engineering stakeholders.
• Mentor engineers and strengthen technical leadership within the team through design discussions, pairing, code reviews, and practical engineering guidance.
• Continuously learn and develop yourself, the team, and the Foundational APIs capability.

• Extensive experience designing and building production software using C# and .NET.
• Strong experience with Microsoft Azure, cloud-native architecture, and Azure DevOps.
• Demonstrated experience designing and developing REST APIs and distributed services.
• Experience with GraphQL, messaging, or event-driven architecture is valuable, but not mandatory.
• Strong understanding of API design principles, including contract design, versioning, backward compatibility, pagination, filtering, error handling, and documentation.
• Experience building observable and supportable services using logs, metrics, tracing, health monitoring, and operational diagnostics.
• Strong understanding of distributed-system challenges such as latency, resilience, partial failure, concurrency, idempotency, consistency, and safe retry behavior.
• Experience creating and managing CI/CD pipelines and automated quality controls.
• Strong automated-testing skills, including unit, integration, API, contract, and end-to-end testing.
• Experience with relational databases and SQL.
• Experience applying Domain-Driven Design or similar techniques to define clear business capabilities and service boundaries.
• Experience modernizing legacy systems through adapters, incremental refactoring, progressive migration, or cloud adoption.
• Ability to simplify complex architectures and create maintainable solutions without introducing unnecessary abstraction.
• Ability to evaluate existing systems and frameworks critically before deciding to build something new.
• Strong architectural judgment combined with the willingness and ability to contribute hands-on to implementation.
• Ability to balance immediate delivery needs with long-term maintainability, reliability, and contract stability.
• Ability to mentor and guide engineers toward technical excellence and effective delivery without becoming a bottleneck for decisions.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work across product, business, architecture, and engineering domains.
• Experience working in a multinational product-development organization.
• Interest in learning the investment-management domain and understanding the business meaning behind the APIs being developed.
• Readiness to learn relevant SimCorp technologies, frameworks, and legacy environments where required.
• An M.Sc. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field is valuable but not essential.
• Good English communication skills, both written and spoken.

AI-ENABLED DEVELOPMENT

• Use approved AI tools fluently as part of everyday engineering, discovery, development, testing, and documentation workflows.
• Critically evaluate AI-generated code, designs, tests, and documentation for correctness, security, maintainability, and architectural fit.
• Help the team use AI responsibly, including understanding when AI-generated output can accelerate delivery and when deeper engineering review is required.
• Identify opportunities where AI can reduce low-value work, improve developer productivity, and accelerate prototyping and technical discovery.
• Help ensure that APIs intended for approved AI consumers apply the same identity, authorization, business rules, auditability, and operational controls as other consumers.
