Principal Software Engineer — Ransomware Defense (Python, Cloud Platforms)
Role Overview
Nasuni is building advanced ransomware detection and mitigation capabilities to protect enterprise-scale unstructured data. This role is responsible for shaping and delivering the systems that detect, analyze, and respond to ransomware threats across our global platform.
This is a high-impact, hands-on technical leadership role for engineers who:
- Own complex security or data systems end-to-end
- Thrive in ambiguous problem spaces like threat detection
- Want to influence architecture across teams
This role is not for candidates focused only on task execution or feature delivery without system ownership.
Level & Scope Definition
- Owns the architecture, design, and evolution of ransomware detection systems within the Control Path and platform services
- Acts as a technical authority across engineering teams (Platform, Security, Data)
- Defines detection strategies, signal pipelines, and system trade-offs
- Drives decisions on performance, scalability, and accuracy of detection systems
- Leads complex initiatives spanning multiple services and teams
- Mentors senior engineers and raises engineering standards across the organization
- Operates with high autonomy and accountability; defines problems as well as solutions
Responsibilities
- Architect and lead development of ransomware detection and mitigation systems across Nasuni’s platform
- Define and implement detection strategies, including behavioral analysis, anomaly detection, and signal correlation
- Design and build scalable Python-based services for data processing, detection, and response workflows
- Establish frameworks for data collection, telemetry, and detection accuracy measurement
- Drive performance optimization and scalability for large-scale datasets and distributed systems
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with Security, Product, and Infrastructure teams
- Build and evolve automated testing frameworks for ransomware scenarios and attack simulations
- Debug and resolve complex system-level issues impacting detection or platform reliability
- Leverage AI/ML-assisted tooling (e.g., anomaly detection, pattern recognition, developer productivity tools) to improve detection accuracy and engineering efficiency, while validating outputs for correctness and bias
- Mentor engineers and contribute to technical roadmap and long-term platform strategy
Qualifications
Must-Have Qualifications
- 10+ years of software engineering experience in product-based environments
- Strong expertise in Python, building production-grade services and distributed systems
- Proven experience designing and owning complex systems or platforms end-to-end
- Experience with cloud infrastructure (AWS preferred) and distributed architectures
- Hands-on experience with data processing, telemetry systems, or large-scale analytics
- Solid understanding of security fundamentals, including threat detection or system resilience
- Demonstrated experience making architectural decisions with cross-team impact
- Practical experience using AI-assisted development or analysis tools (e.g., code generation, anomaly detection workflows) with ability to validate outputs and integrate responsibly
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with ransomware, malware detection, or cybersecurity systems
- Familiarity with Django / Django REST Framework or similar backend frameworks
- Experience with performance profiling and optimization at scale
- Knowledge of file systems, storage systems, and network protocols
- Exposure to data science or statistical modeling approaches
Ideal Qualifications
- Direct ownership of a threat detection or security platform
- Experience designing real-time or near-real-time detection systems
- Contributions to security research, detection frameworks, or open-source projects
- Experience influencing multi-team architecture in SaaS platforms
Experience Guidelines
- 10–15+ years total software engineering experience
- 5+ years designing and owning distributed systems or platforms
- 3+ years working on data-intensive, detection, or security-related systems
