Northrop Grumman Space Systems—Missile Defense Integration is seeking a Principal Software Engineer – BM/SRM (26-216) for the C2BMC program in Huntsville, AL (HSV). This on-site role supports the U.S. President, Secretary of Defense, and combatant commanders by enabling planning, monitoring, and dynamic control of missile defense operations.
Position Overview
C2BMC is a key component of the Missile Defense System, providing integrated command and control across networked sensors and weapons. The BM/SRM Software Engineer will develop and sustain Java-based enterprise applications in a Linux environment, supporting real-time battle management and sensor resource allocation.
Essential Functions:
- Design, develop, integrate, and maintain Java-based enterprise applications on Linux
- Implement software engineering best practices including coding standards, automated tests, and CI/CD pipelines
- Perform analysis, troubleshooting, and resolution of complex software issues
- Assist with design, coding, testing, debugging, and documentation of applications and tools
- Collaborate with system engineering and operations teams to improve performance and reliability
- Develop automation tools to enhance operations, monitoring, and deployment
- Participate in agile teams (planning, reviews, retrospectives) and support evolving program needs
Basic Qualifications:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in software engineering experience and post-secondary education/training in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Engineering, Mathematics, Physics, or related field from an accredited university, along with 5 years of experience; or Master’s Degree in a related field with 3 years of work experience; or 9 years of relevant work experience may be considered as an alternative to a degree
- Strong experience with software development in Java/J2EE, C++/OO, or similar languages
- Enterprise application development on Linux (Windows desired)
- Coding standards, automated testing, building pipelines, configuration management
- Problem-solving, diagnosing performance/operational issues, and implementing solutions
- Tools such as Maven, Git/GitHub, Nexus, Eclipse or similar IDEs
- Agile development methodologies
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Applicants must have a current, active in-scope Government-issued Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start
- Willingness to travel up to 10% for business need
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with command and control (C2) system application development
- Experience with software integration and formal system-level testing
- Experience in DevSecOps and/or build and deployment management
- Ability to present complex technical concepts to non-software audiences, including senior program and military leaders
- Familiarity with C2BMC or large-scale, real-time distributed systems
- Demonstrated flexibility and willingness to take on unanticipated tasks

Primary Level Salary Range: $108,800.00 - $163,200.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
