Role overview
As a Principal Software Engineer on the Algorithmic Traffic Acquisition team, you'll be part of a high-performing team responsible for managing millions of dollars of spend that brings over 40 million visitors a month to CarGurus. As a member of Team Content, you'll fuel our network of ads, finding ways to drive efficiency and expand our reach.
What you'll do

  • Work closely with product managers and other engineers to identify opportunities and drive initiatives for improving our ad reach and efficiency
  • Participate in regular meetings with our ad partners (e.g. Google, MSN, Meta) to provide technical insight and guidance
  • Build, maintain, and improve highly performant systems written with clean, well-tested code
  • Maintain an internal UI for managing our ad program
  • Provide technical leadership across ATA, refining to our overall approach to design and architecture and setting standards for the team to follow
  • Mentor junior engineers, helping them to improve by consistently providing thoughtful feedback and technical advice


What you'll bring

  • Proficiency in Kotlin (preferred), Java, or C#
  • Experience writing efficient queries in SQL and tuning database performance
  • Experience working in a Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) environment with daily code deploys
  • Self-starter who proactively seeks out new opportunities to leverage our ad partners' offerings
  • Excellent communicator comfortable working closely with less technical stakeholders
  • Experience with noSQL databases (Snowflake, Redis) is a plus
  • Experience in Terraform/AWS is a plus
  • Experience in React is a plus
