Atlassians can choose where they work - whether in an office, from home, or a combination of the two. That way, Atlassians have more control over supporting their family, personal goals, and other priorities. We can hire people in any country where we have a legal entity.
Position Summary
We are looking for a highly strategic, analytical, and execution-driven Principal Program Manager to lead complex, cross-functional transformation initiatives across Product, GTM, Strategy, and Operations. You will design and run the operating model that aligns teams, drives accountability, and accelerates business outcomes, serving as the connective tissue across stakeholders to define measurable initiatives, align work to OKRs and long-range plans, sustain a unified portfolio source of truth, and ensure governance, decision-making, and change adoption land effectively.
Own & Deliver a Connected & Transparent Transformation Portfolio
- Sustain a unified, always-current source of truth that gives executives and functional leaders real-time confidence in portfolio health, momentum, and outcomes.
- Deliver integrated roadmaps and cross-vector dependency views that enable informed prioritization and proactive risk mitigation across Product, GTM, and Operations.
- Produce transparent, high-quality reporting (Atlas updates, program hubs, milestones) that drives alignment and accountability without requiring stakeholders to chase information.
- Synthesize complexity into clarity, enabling leaders to make faster, better decisions about sequencing, resourcing, and tradeoffs.
Strategic Problem-Solving
- Translate ambiguous, cross-functional challenges into clearly scoped problem statements with hypotheses, success criteria, and actionable paths forward.
- Deliver data-informed recommendations that balance business, customer, and operational needs; not just surface problems, but resolve them.
- Proactively identify and remove execution barriers before they impact timelines, adoption, or stakeholder confidence.
- Partner with cross-functional leaders to align on "what good looks like" and ensure program scope is grounded in measurable business outcomes.
Analytical Thinking, Systems Approach & Continuous Improvement
- Apply systems thinking to diagnose how people, processes, and technology interact; and deliver insights that improve the operating model over time.
- Define and refine success measures that demonstrate the impact of transformation (productivity, cycle time, adoption, operational maturity).
- Turn patterns across programs into reusable playbooks, templates, and improved practices that elevate team-wide execution quality.
- Build reporting mechanisms and health assessments that move beyond status reporting to actionable intelligence for decision-makers.
Communication, Change Management & Executive Influence
- Influence senior stakeholders through crisp, insight-led communication that earns buy-in and drives alignment on program direction and tradeoffs.
- Drive structured change adoption; ensuring leaders and field teams understand what's changing, why it matters, and what success looks like.
- Deliver executive-quality updates and narratives that support decision-making without requiring deep context or follow-up.
- Build communication and enablement approaches that improve adoption rates and reinforce operational consistency at scale.
Program Ownership, Management & Execution
- Create structure from ambiguity; delivering actionable plans with clear deliverables, milestones, sequencing, and sustained follow-through.
- Own end-to-end program outcomes, demonstrating measurable progress against strategic goals and business priorities.
- Surface risks and interdependencies early with clear mitigation plans, escalation paths, and tradeoff recommendations; not just risk logs.
- Produce actionable progress insights that demonstrate transparency, momentum, and connection between work and results.
Build & Maintain a Unified Transformation Operating Model
- Design and operate the governance model (DRIs, decision cadences, hub-and-spoke coordination) that drives accountability and execution velocity.
- Ensure initiatives are properly sequenced, staffed, and aligned to OKRs and Long-Range Plan targets with clear measurable outcomes.
- Lead quarterly planning, steering preparation, and portfolio prioritization, delivering outputs that inform executive decision-making.
- Build feedback loops that ensure planning reflects functional priorities, business signals, and field insights; creating a living, adaptive operating model.
Experience
- 10+ years in Program Management or Strategy & Operations
- Demonstrated success operating within fast-paced, high-growth, or matrixed environments.
- Experience leading multi-quarter, multi-team transformation initiatives or portfolios.
- Background working with GTM and Product organizations, such as Sales, Success, Marketing, Revenue Operations, Product, and Engineering, preferred.
- Experience building program charters, governance models, success frameworks, and executive reporting for strategic initiatives.
Skills & Technical Proficiency
- Strong command of program management frameworks, including OKRs, DRI models, RAID or RACI frameworks, prioritization matrices, governance models, and change management approaches.
- Ability to define success measures, build health dashboards, and turn data into actionable recommendations.
- Strong systems thinking and ability to connect strategy, operations, process, and organizational behavior.
- Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new systems, workflows, and operational models.
- Familiarity with portfolio management, engineering teams, product operating rhythms, planning cadences, and cross-functional transformation practices.
Behavioral / Leadership Qualities
- Highly structured and detail-oriented, with exceptional organizational skills.
- Strong executive presence and ability to influence without authority.
- Comfortable working through ambiguity and establishing clarity from the ground up.
- High integrity, professionalism, and commitment to transparency.
- Curious mindset, continuous improvement orientation, and commitment to learning.
- Able to balance strategic thinking with operational rigor and day-to-day execution.
