The Impact of a Principal Product Manager at Coupa:
Coupa is at the forefront of the Business Spend Management (BSM) revolution, and we are rapidly evolving our Core Procurement platform into an autonomous, intelligence-driven ecosystem. We are looking for an elite, highly strategic Principal Product Manager to serve as the domain anchor for our Core Procurement engine, heavily focusing on the intersection of transactional workflows, Artificial Intelligence, and predictive Spend Analytics.
As a Principal PM, you will not just manage a backlog; you will define the multi-year platform vision. You will act as the strategic bridge between high-level leadership and squad-level execution, untangling complex architectural challenges and introducing AI-driven decision support directly into the user experience. If you are passionate about transforming traditional Procure-to-Pay (P2P) processes through machine learning, actionable data, and seamless automation, this is your opportunity to drive massive impact at scale.
What You’ll Do
- Define the Autonomous Procurement Vision: Own the end-to-end strategy and roadmap for Core Procurement (Requisitions, POs, Approvals, Receiving), driving the transition from manual, forms-based workflows to AI-assisted, intent-driven purchasing experiences.
- Lead AI & Predictive Analytics Integration: Partner closely with the AI Center of Excellence (AICOE) and Data teams to embed intelligent features—such as the Buying Policy Enforcer Agent, smart supplier recommendations, and anomaly detection—directly into the transactional flow.
- Drive Actionable Spend Analytics: Reimagine how enterprise customers view and interact with their spend data. Design embedded analytics dashboards and predictive models that help CPOs and finance leaders forecast spend, identify cost-saving opportunities, and mitigate supplier risk in real-time.
- Own High-Stakes Architectural Trade-offs: Act as the primary decision-maker for complex platform evolutions. You will work side-by-side with Principal Architects to ensure our core calculation engines, data pipelines, and analytics frameworks are scalable, performant, and future-proof.
- Cross-Functional Leadership & Mentorship: Serve as the autonomous "hub" across distributed Engineering, UX, Data Science, and Go-To-Market teams. Reduce the need for Director-level tactical mediation by proactively aligning stakeholders and mentoring Senior/Mid-level PMs on your team.
- Executive Customer Engagement: Act as the face of Coupa's Core Procurement and AI strategy for our largest, most strategic enterprise customers (e.g., Fortune 500 accounts). Lead empathy interviews, validate complex analytics use cases, and present roadmap visions at executive briefings.
What You Will Bring to Coupa
- Experience: 10+ years of enterprise software Product Management experience, with a proven track record of operating at a Principal, Lead, or Group PM level within B2B SaaS.
- Deep Procurement/P2P Mastery (Required): Absolute fluency in global enterprise procurement lifecycles, financial compliance, spend controls, ERP’s and supply chain operations.
- AI & Analytics Acumen (Required): Demonstrable experience bringing Machine Learning, Generative AI, or advanced Data Analytics products to market. You must deeply understand how to leverage data to build predictive models, recommendation engines, and embedded BI dashboards.
- Technical Depth: Highly comfortable diving into technical constraints, large-scale data architectures, API integrations, and complex algorithmic logic with senior engineering leaders.
- Strategic Outcome Ownership: You measure success by hard business outcomes (e.g., automation rates, user friction reduction, customer retention) rather than just shipping features.
- Exceptional Influencer: Proven ability to influence global, cross-functional teams and executive stakeholders without direct reporting authority.
- Previous experience transitioning legacy, rigid SaaS workflows into "AI-first," consumer-grade enterprise experiences.
- Direct experience building predictive spend models or dynamic, real-time budgeting algorithms.
- A background in data science, analytics, or engineering before moving into product management.
What Will Make You Stand Out
- Global Wellness Days: Enjoy two designated, company-wide paid wellness days off each year (typically the first Friday in March and the last Friday in September) so the entire global team can unplug, step away, and recharge together .
- Birthday Time-Off: Celebrate your day! Coupa provides a paid day off on your birthday or another day of your choice within your birthday month .
- Volunteer Time Off (VTO): Giving back is in our DNA. We offer 40 hours of paid VTO annually to support the community initiatives and volunteer programs you are passionate about .
