Role Summary 

Montefiore’s Experience Design and End User Research team is seeking a Principal Experience Designer with deep expertise in service design and user research. This individual contributor leads the end-to-end design of complex experience domains, applying mastery in product design across native, web, voice, and conversational channels, as well as a broad range of user research methods. As part of a newly established design practice, they will help build and scale the design capability across the organization, energizing teams and embedding human-centered design ways of working. The role drives high-quality execution and advances design practices to deliver strong user and business outcomes. 

 

Responsibilities:

Design  

  • Leads and executes UI/UX design work across user journeys and channels to improve usability and deliver experiences that align with Montefiore’s strategic priorities. 

  • Develops and evolves design processes, tools, and systems to support scalable, efficient work. 

  • Facilitates design-led problem solving and strategic planning. 

  • Sets and maintains high standards for design quality, communication, and consistency. 

  • Guides brand expression and accessibility across digital touchpoints.  

Research  

  • Supports user research execution by applying qualitative and quantitative methods to surface relevant end-user insights.  

  • Develops research plans, drafts discussion guides, moderates interviews, programs surveys, and analyzes data 

  • Translates findings into insights tailored for product, adoption, and executive audiences. 

  • Contributes to improving research processes, tools, and deliverables. 

Collaboration & Communication 

  • Helps solve problems by facilitating structured discussions and workshops using design thinking methods. 

  • Partners closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Adoption, and Measurement teams to inform planning and delivery of integrated solutions. 

  • Builds strong relationships across the organization to support shared outcomes. 

  • Communicates insights through compelling storytelling—written, verbal, and visual. 

  • Mentors others in design craft and related skill development. 

 

Requirements:

The ideal candidate is a principal-level Experience Designer with a strong foundation in both service design and user research operating in complex environments. Experience in healthcare settings is strongly preferred. This role requires someone who thrives in ambiguity, works independently, and adapts quickly to change. The ideal candidate is organized, proactive, empathetic, and brings creative problem-solving to experience design. 

 

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 6 years of experience designing products and services across digital platforms (including web, mobile apps, voice interfaces, virtual assistants, and native platforms.) 

  • Bachelors degree in design, user experience, graphic design, information design, product design, human factors or equivalent/relevant work experience. 

  • Expertise in service design, end-to-end experience strategy, and systems thinking  

  • Demonstrated success leading design initiatives and delivering high-impact user and business outcomes. 

  • Strong experience creating journey maps, service blueprints, and other experience artifacts informed by user research. 

  • Skilled in designing accessible experiences across different channels and platforms. 

  • Experience developing and evolving design systems and standards to ensure consistency and scalability. 

  • Deep understanding of user-centered design principles and how design decisions influence behavior, perception, and task completion. 

  • Advanced proficiency in qualitative and quantitative research methods. 

  • Proven ability to translate research findings into actionable insights and recommendations for product, operational, and executive stakeholders. 

  • Strong track record of building collaborative relationships with cross-functional partners, including product, engineering, data, adoption, measurement, and marketing teams. 

  • Excellent storytelling, workshop facilitation, and stakeholder management skills. 

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience designing for healthcare settings, including patient-facing digital platforms or clinical workflows. 

  • Experience working in an Agile practice environment. 

  • Interest in emerging technologies such as AI, voice interfaces, or wearables.
