Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer to join the Advisor Platform Team within Wealth and Investment Management Technology (WIMT) to serve as a senior technical leader for the Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) Platform, a strategic, web-based platform designed to support core custody capabilities including trading, money movement, account opening, and portfolio management. This individual will play a critical role in defining platform architecture, driving engineering standards, and leading complex integrations with internal and third-party systems that are essential to the RIA ecosystem.
This role requires a hands-on engineering leader who can both design and implement solutions while also mentoring teams, influencing technical direction, and partnering closely with product, security, and enterprise architecture stakeholders.
In this Role:
- Serve as the principal technical authority for the RIA platform, shaping overall system architecture, design patterns, and long-term technical vision.
- Define and enforce engineering standards for scalability, resiliency, security, performance, and maintainability across the platform.
- Act as a hands-on contributor, designing and building critical components of the platform using Java, Spring Boot, and React.js.
- Lead development of backend services, APIs, and frontend frameworks supporting core custody workflows.
- Implement resiliency and reliability best practices, including fault tolerance, circuit breaking, graceful degradation, and observability.
- Lead complex integrations with third-party vendors
- Ensure secure, scalable, and compliant integrations that support multi-tenant and multi-channel RIA use cases.
- Mentor senior and mid-level engineers, raising overall engineering maturity and technical depth.
- 7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 5 years of Java and Spring Boot experience
- 4 years of React.js, Apache and Kafka experience
- 4 years of MongoDB and relational databases and Caching technologies experience
- 4 years of distributed systems, microservices architectures, and cloud-native platforms experience
- 4 years of resiliency, scalability, and performance engineering experience.
- Experience building platforms for Wealth Management, Custody, Trading, or Advisory businesses.
- Experience using AI-powered developer tooling (e.g., code generation, review, test creation).
- Prior success operating as a technical lead across multiple teams or product areas.

Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to demonstrated examples of prior performance, skills, experience, or work location. Employees may also be eligible for incentive opportunities.
