Role description:

Arcadis is looking for a Principal Electrical Engineer with experience in designing electrical power systems for the municipal water/wastewater industry to join our growing team in Phoenix, Arizona!

As a Principal Electrical Engineer, you will utilize your technical capabilities to collaborate with our experienced team of professionals, providing technical and design consulting services with a focus on electrical power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding design to support projects for the West Region of our Resilience Water Business. In addition to managing tasks, overseeing the work of engineering professionals, and being an industry leader supporting the growth of our municipal water/wastewater practice.

Role accountabilities:

This role is responsible for the electrical design and coordination of various projects with an emphasis on medium and low-voltage power distribution, motor controls, lighting, and grounding for water/wastewater projects. 

Other responsibilities include: 

  • Project/task management and support in managing budgets and delivery schedules for each assignment. 
  • Development of project/task scopes, schedules, and budget for new projects.  
  • Interactive coordination with our Control Systems and Process Mechanical groups. 
  • Establishing design criteria, performing design calculations, developing one-line diagrams, control schematics, plans and specifications. 
  • Performing engineering services during construction, including reviewing equipment submittals, shop drawings and responding to contractor RFIs (request for information). 
  • Conducting field inspections, overseeing projects in construction which includes identifying deviations from design, performing general QA/QC of completed work, and monitoring safety compliance. 
  • Performing system analysis using ETAP, SKM Power Tools or other power systems analysis software. At a minimum, provide engineering responsibility for staff using these software packages to publish a power systems study with arc flash hazard analysis. 
  • Some travel up to 10% will be required to support project needs.

Required Qualifications: 

  • 15 years of relevant work experience. 
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology, preferably with an emphasis on power. 
  • Professional Engineering License in Arizona or ability to obtain reciprocity in 6 months.

Key Skills and Attributes: 

Candidates should possess a solid working knowledge of the National Electrical Code and a basic understanding of AutoCAD. The ideal candidate will be proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, MS Project, and Outlook, and demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills. Success in this role requires a performance-driven mindset, strong organizational abilities, and the capability to work effectively both independently and as a collaborative member of a multidisciplinary design team.

Arcadis offers benefits for full time and part time positions. These benefits include medical, dental, and vision, EAP,  401K, STD, LTD, AD&D, life insurance, paid parental leave, reward & recognition program and optional benefits including wellbeing benefits, adoption assistance and tuition reimbursement.  We offer nine paid holidays and 20 days PTO that accrue per year. The salary range for this position is $140,000 - $200,000. Actual salaries will vary and are based on several factors, such as experience, education, budget, internal equity, project and location.
