Job Summary:
As an eCommerce Architect for Caterpillar's eCommerce Platform team, you will lead the design and architecture of enterprise-scale eCommerce solutions. This role emphasizes defining robust, scalable, and secure architectures aligned with business objectives, leveraging modern trends such as headless commerce, composable architecture, and microservices.
What You Will Do:
  • Architect and Design Solutions: Define end-to-end architecture for eCommerce platforms, ensuring scalability, performance, and security.
  • Technology Leadership: Stay current with emerging trends in eCommerce architecture and guide strategic technology decisions.
  • Integration Strategy: Design and oversee integration with ERP, CRM, payment gateways, analytics, and other enterprise systems.
  • Governance and Standards: Establish architectural standards, patterns, and best practices across eCommerce applications.
  • Collaboration: Partner with product managers, engineering teams, and UX designers to deliver cohesive solutions.
  • Performance Optimization: Ensure systems meet high availability and performance benchmarks.
  • Mentorship: Provide technical leadership and guidance to development teams.

Effective Communications• Communicates complex architectural concepts clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.• Delivers helpful feedback and listens without defensiveness.• Makes oral presentations and writes reports needed for own work.
Software Development• Contrasts advantages and drawbacks of different development languages and tools.• Provides consulting on selection and utilization of development toolkits.• Has participated in development of multiple or large-scale software products.
Software Development Life Cycle• Works with formal life cycle methodology.• Explains phases, activities, dependencies, deliverables, and key decision points.
Software Integration Engineering• Designs data exchange interfaces and integration strategies for heterogeneous systems.• Describes tools and techniques for extraction, transformation, and loading of electronic data.
Software Product Design/Architecture• Demonstrates experience with architecture and design of major or multiple products.• Explains design considerations for web applications and eCommerce systems.• Facilitates design reviews and walkthroughs.
Software Product Technical Knowledge• Participates in creating technical requirements for software development and deployment.• Explains environment and product configuration options.
Software Product Testing• Participates in test readiness reviews, functional, volume, and load testing.• Tests software components for compliance with functional requirements and design specifications.
Considerations for Top Candidates:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience
  • Proven experience architecting large-scale eCommerce platforms.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Understanding of API-driven architecture, RESTful services, microservices, and gRPC.
  • Working knowledge of artificial intelligence trends and capabilities.
  • Strong understanding of MACH architecture patterns.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience with headless CMS and modern front-end frameworks (React, Angular, Vue, Next.js).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.
  • Knowledge of security, compliance, and data privacy in eCommerce environments
  • Knowledge of HCL Commerce and Java-based frameworks.

Summary Pay Range:
$144,960.00 - $235,440.00
Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
