What you’ll be doing...As a Principal Data Scientist in our Strategic Analytics & Modeling group, you are the intellectual engine translating complex data into executive-level strategy. Your mission is to deliver the "Deep Intelligence" that shapes our long-term business strategy. You will lead the development of advanced statistical models and rigorous analytical frameworks to solve unique business operations problems.
You aren’t just producing numbers; you are crafting the Business Case for our most significant investments. You will be a translator of complexity, leveraging LLMs and RAG architectures to synthesize vast amounts of internal data, turning the "noise" of global supply chain volatility, spend patterns, and asset utilization into clear, actionable insights for senior leadership. You will work in a high-maturity environment, leveraging Domino Data Lab and Gurobi to solve our most difficult optimization puzzles.
You will work with key stakeholders to generate hypotheses and create analytic models that answer our most impactful business questions. You are responsible for leading the design of data science products while thinking strategically about how these models meet the long-term goals of the business. You will leverage our full tech stack to develop resolutions to complex problems that require creativity, making decisions that directly impact Verizon's bottom line.
Architect AI-Driven Decision Systems: Design and implement RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) systems that ground LLMs in proprietary supply chain data to provide accurate, real-time strategic recommendations.
Optimize Complex Operations: Use Gurobi to solve high-dimensional supply chain constraints, moving beyond simple heuristics to find the mathematically "best" path for our global operations.
Accelerate with AI-Native Workflows: Utilize advanced coding assistants like Claude Code within VS Code to automate boilerplate and focus your energy on strategic problem-solving.
Drive Actionable Insights & Influencing: Lead end-to-end analytical projects, moving beyond "what happened" to prescribing solutions and proving the causal ROI of specific business interventions
Master Executive Storytelling: Use AI to help synthesize complex model outputs into high-impact narratives and "What-If" simulators that speak the language of the C-suite.
Partner Across the Ecosystem: Collaborate with our Innovation and Enablement teams to integrate models into a robust, strategically aligned autonomous ecosystem.
Ensure Governance & Scalability: Build solutions that are scalable and can be governed to measure model drift and impact.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...You are a "Strategic Scientist" who sees AI as a force multiplier. You have the technical depth to build a complex model from scratch, but the business acumen to know when an explainable model is the more powerful choice for a stakeholder. You thrive on the challenge of influencing a "room full of skeptics" with data-backed conviction.
You’ll need to have:
Bachelor’s degree or four or more years of work experience.
Six or more years of relevant experience required, demonstrated through one or a combination of work and/or military experience, or specialized training.
Experience as a data scientist, analyst, or statistical modeler.
Experience using LLMs or coding agents (e.g., Claude Code, GitHub Copilot) to enhance productivity and code quality.
Experience with Google BigQuery, Teradata, Python/R, SQL, Alteryx, and visualization tools like Tableau.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Degree in business intelligence and analytics, computer science, or mathematics.
Master’s degree.
Proven track record of presenting complex technical findings to non-technical senior executives.
Experience with Data Warehousing or Teradata SQL.
Knowledge of distributed computing tools, like Hive or Spark.
Experience with SiteCatalyst/Clickstream.
Experience with programming languages, like Java or Scala.
If Verizon and this role sound like a fit for you, we encourage you to apply even if you don’t meet every “even better” qualification listed above.
