The Principal Data Engineer is a senior technical leader responsible for architecting and delivering the foundational components of EROAD’s next-generation Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) using Snowflake and DBT Cloud. This role is pivotal in executing the enterprise data strategy and enabling a scalable, secure, and modern data platform that supports self-service analytics and advanced data capabilities across the business.
The successful candidate will lead the design and implementation of data models, ELT pipelines, and platform governance frameworks. They will also champion the adoption of Power BI as the enterprise visualization tool and ensure alignment with best practices in data architecture, security, and performance.
This role requires a hands-on leader with deep technical expertise, a strategic mindset, and a passion for enabling data-driven decision-making at scale.
Architecture & Delivery
- Lead the design and implementation of EROAD’s Snowflake EDW using DBT Cloud.
- Define and enforce architectural standards, data modeling practices, and ELT patterns.
- Translate the enterprise data strategy into actionable technical roadmaps and deliverables.
- Ensure secure, scalable, and cost-effective data platform operations.
- Oversee the integration of data from key enterprise systems (e.g., D365, Salesforce) into the EDW.
Platform Ownership & Governance
- Administer and optimize the Snowflake environment, including Cortex features.
- Improve and maintain data governance, access control, and quality frameworks.
- Drive the adoption and lifecycle management of Power BI across the organization.
- Support the implementation of Microsoft Fabric and Data Factory components.
Enablement & Strategy Execution
- Lead the rollout of a self-service BI strategy, including training, documentation, and user engagement.
- Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand data needs and deliver scalable solutions.
- Mentor engineers and analysts on modern data engineering practices and tools.
- Continuously evaluate emerging technologies (e.g., AI/ML, Cortex) for business value.

REQUIRED SKILLS
- SnowPro Core Certification.
- DBT Certification and/or 3+ years of DBT experience.
- Strong Power BI development and administration skills.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Fabric and Data Factory.
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts and Snowflake Cortex.
- University degree or diploma in Computer Science or related field.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Proven experience leading DBT Core implementations.
- Hands-on administration of Snowflake environments with security best practices.
- Experience architecting and delivering modern ELT pipelines and data models.
- Deep understanding of supply chain and quote-to-cash data processes.
- Demonstrated success implementing self-service BI strategies and frameworks.
- Experience executing a formal data strategy in a complex enterprise environment.
PREFERRED SKILLS
- Knowledge of D365 Finance & Operations schema.
- Familiarity with Salesforce data structures and integration patterns.
