PRESIDENT OF AUTOMATION DIVISION
MACHINE SOLUTIONS
POSITION OVERVIEW
The President of the Automation Division at Machine Solutions is responsible for leading the organization on a path of profitable growth in the custom automation equipment sector. Reporting directly to the Machine Solutions President and CEO, this role has full P&L responsibility and oversight of all commercial, technical, operations, and support teams across multiple manufacturing sites. The President will develop and execute comprehensive strategic plans to drive business growth while ensuring operational excellence and profitability in the design and build of custom automation equipment for the medical device, catheter manufacturing, life sciences and other high precision applications.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership
- Develops, implements, and executes a strategic business plan for profitable growth, including achievement of assigned metrics related to financial forecasts, customer satisfaction, and operational excellence
- Directs the development of long-range operational forecasts regarding sales, market share, financial requirements, people needs, and projected effects on business investments, revenues, and profitability
- Provides visionary leadership in identifying growth opportunities, market trends, and competitive positioning
- Maintains knowledge of industry developments, new technologies, and market conditions relevant to custom automation equipment and medical device/catheter manufacturing industries
- Cultivates a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and operational excellence
- Supports acquisition diligence and integration efforts to successfully execute a programmatic M&A program
Business Performance & Financial Management
- Assumes full P&L responsibility for the division, including all aspects of financial performance and accountability
- Implements and monitors key performance indicators (KPIs) across all business functions
- Ensures fiscal responsibility through effective budget management, cost control, and resource allocation
- Approves contracts and actively assists with negotiations for significant business opportunities
- Understands impact of project and business decisions on COGs, overhead, direct labor, line decisions, and contract manufacturing costs
Team & Talent Development
- Builds and maintains a high-performance leadership team capable of executing the company's strategic vision
- Actively develops direct reports and ensures succession planning for key leadership positions
- Creates a collaborative and innovative work environment that attracts and retains top talent
- Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations
- Fosters a company culture aligned with organizational values and leadership commitments
Customer & Market Focus
- Engage with current and potential customers at tradeshows and their manufacturing sites to build relationships and identify opportunities
- Approves advertising and marketing campaigns to strengthen market presence
- Champions a clear channel of communication between the organization and key customers
- Ensures the company maintains its reputation for technical excellence, quality, and customer satisfaction
- Represents the company as a technical and business authority with customers, partners, and industry influencers
Governance & Compliance
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and company policies and procedures
- Maintains thorough knowledge of medical device compliance requirements and relevant governmental regulations
- Develops and implements divisional policies and procedures that are effective, clear, and compliant
- Assumes responsibility for safety and environmental compliance across all operations
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or related field required; MBA or advanced degree preferred
- 10+ years of progressive, diverse, and successful business experience in mid-sized organizations ($75M+ revenue)
- Significant general management experience with full P&L responsibility
- Proven experience in the custom automation equipment industry, preferably with applications in life sciences, medical devices, or related fields
- Background in capital equipment manufacturing is required; automation experience strongly preferred
- Six Sigma, lean manufacturing, or operational excellence certification/experience
Knowledge & Skills
- Strong understanding of financial management, budgeting, and business analysis
- Excellent strategic planning and business development capabilities
- Thorough knowledge of manufacturing operations, including production flow, quality systems, and supply chain management
- Advanced knowledge of custom automation equipment design, engineering, and implementation
- Strong commercial acumen with demonstrated success in sales growth and market expansion
- Ability to lead in a matrix organization that is not reliant on hierarchical silos
- Exceptional leadership and team-building skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to develop and present comprehensive reports
- Experience setting and implementing strategy, managing institutional growth and change

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Able to lift up to 15 pounds occasionally
- Must be able to access and navigate all areas of manufacturing facilities
- Travel will be minimal at outset, will increase as additional sites are acquired – up to 50% travel.
