About the Role
As a Pre-Construction Manager at Z Modular, a division of Zekelman Industries, you will play a key role in coordinating all pre-construction activities to ensure projects move efficiently from design through site mobilization. This position requires strong project management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with subcontractors, internal teams, and external partners. You will directly contribute to successful project delivery by establishing qualified trade networks, managing bidding processes, and preparing project information needed to support seamless execution.

You will collaborate with design, engineering, project management, purchasing, and site construction teams to ensure all required information, materials, and subcontractor resources are aligned prior to groundbreaking. This is an on-site role located at the appropriate Z Modular location.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop a catalog of qualified subcontractors in each trade.

  • Pre-qualify subcontractors so project managers can obtain pricing efficiently.

  • Create and maintain a deep subcontractor list for each trade scope.

  • Manage the bid process through BuildingConnected and Procore platforms.

  • Conduct pre-construction meetings and walk-throughs with trades, including site construction teams as needed.

  • Update existing bid scopes and create new scopes for each product line and project site.

  • Review and scope trade bids, identifying variances and confirming accuracy prior to finalization.

  • Coordinate with design teams to finalize material lists and quantities for each product line.

  • Prioritize subcontractor buyout activities in partnership with site construction teams.

  • Collaborate with purchasing to secure long-term material pricing.

  • Maintain template subcontract agreements and consultant agreements.

  • Assist with preparing purchase orders, requisitions, and proposals.

  • Attend design, engineering, and AOC meetings to remain aligned with project requirements.

  • Lead project management calls with Z Modular personnel.

  • Lead and promote healthy and safe work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy.

  • Other duties as assigned by management.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of commercial construction project management experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Building Science preferred.

  • Ability to travel to Z Modular production and project sites across the U.S. (minimum twice per month, up to once per week as needed).

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office applications.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced construction and manufacturing environment where upfront planning is essential.

  • Ability to multitask and manage competing priorities.

  • Ability to meet all physical requirements, including standing for extended periods, lifting up to 10 lbs., and performing work in a plant or construction environment.

  • Regular, full-time, predictable on-site attendance per posted schedule.
