About Nothing

Nothing exists to make tech feel exciting again.

We’re building a different kind of technology company, one that puts design, emotion, and human creativity at the heart of everything we do. From the way our products look and feel to how we communicate and show up in culture, we believe technology should make you feel something.

Founded in London in 2020, we’ve grown from idea to global challenger in just a few years. Backed by GV (Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, and C Ventures, and investors like Tony Fadell (iPod), Casey Neistat, and Kevin Lin (Twitch), we’re now sold in 40+ markets with millions of users worldwide.

Our Culture:

Radical spirit drives everything we do and spans seven offices around the globe.  Our 4 core values sit at the heart of everything we do:

Be the change - we are proactive, action orientated and drive change, stepping outside of our comfort zone

Pride in the product - we obsess over detail, always improving and staying curious about tech and the world

Thrive on Diversity - we welcome differences, listen & communicate with respect and collaborate to build strong teams

Survive - we empower everyone to act as an owner and understand the business as a whole which leads to delivering exceptional results

The Role:

As our PR Manager for Japan, you’ll own the local communications strategy across consumer, product, and corporate. Based in Tokyo and reporting to Japan Marketing Lead/General Manager, you’ll work closely with regional leaders/teams/agencies and global functional teams to tell bold stories that shape culture, build love for our brand, and grow the business.

We’re looking for a sharp communicator who knows the Japan media landscape inside and out. Someone who can craft narratives, lead moments that matter, and turn heads with earned-first ideas. You’ll bring fresh thinking, strong media relationships, and a drive to make real noise in one of our most exciting markets.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead our communications strategy for Japan, from planning to execution, aligned with Japan marketing goals and global communications priorities
  • Be the local voice of the brand, helping drive awareness and trust across all touchpoints
  • Own media relations: build strong relationships with media, journalists and reviewers in tech, lifestyle, business and design
  • Lead integrated campaign moments for product launches, brand storytelling, and thought leadership
  • Manage our local PR agency to deliver world-class output
  • Act as the go-to comms partner for the Japan leadership team
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with marketing, community, and commercial teams to drive impact
  • Monitor local reputation, manage issues and crisis comms as needed
  • Track coverage, sentiment, and performance, and keep pushing for more

Requirements:

  • Experience in consumer tech PR, including direct media pitching and agency collaboration
  • A good understanding of data analysis and marketing analytics, with an ability to translate insights into actionable strategies
  • Deep knowledge of pop culture, internet culture, and social media trends, with a strategic mindset for influencing audience behaviour
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills, particularly within the influencer and cultural sectors
  • Results-driven, with a clear focus on achieving KPIs to drive business outcomes
  • Bilingual: fluent in Japanese and advanced/business in English

What We Do

Today, we’re left with just a few large incumbents. Lacking instinct and courage, they use research and analysis as crutches to make cold, unexciting and derivative products.

Consumers are bored, no longer inspired by technology and instead feel uneasy about big tech and its impact on people's lives and society.

Nothing is igniting change in the world.

We’re here to make tech fun again, unleash creativity, and inspire our community to shape the future with us.

About us:
Nothing is a UK-based privately held company with backing from GV (formerly Google Ventures), EQT Ventures, C Ventures and other private investors including Tony Fadell (Principal at Future Shape & inventor of the iPod), Casey Neistat (YouTube personality and Co-founder of Beme), Kevin Lin (Co-founder of Twitch) and Steve Huffman (Co-founder and CEO of Reddit
