As the leading line of business, UMB’s bottom line is directly impacted by the growth of our Commercial & Industrial loan portfolio. The team consists of Portfolio Managers, Underwriters, Credit Analysts, Treasury Management, Commercial Card professionals, and Capital Market partners. This team manages Commercial & Industrial relationships throughout its life – developing meaningful connections with management of the companies they serve. Always mindful of the changes in the company, its industry, etc., over time that might create a change in their financial service needs.
The Portfolio Manager performs as the gateway keeper to new Commercial & Industrial loan deals, and existing commercial loan relationships. They collaborate closely with the Commercial Relationship Manager/Sales Officer to better understand the client needs, historical cash flow data related to the performance of the company’s past, and industry data to qualify the commercial clients loan requests. The Portfolio Managers helps to facilitate the administration of new and existing loan accounts associated with our internal administrative team. With existing loan clients, they monitor the deal to make sure the commercial loan is performing to the standard to which the loan is underwritten, identify additional expansion opportunities, monitoring the covenants, past due payments report, and any exceptions. Another key responsibility is supporting the commercial underwriting pipeline, both new and existing loan business. Growth is important for the Portfolio Manager, whether it is staying credit focused or moving into a client facing role. Playing the role of problem solver for both clients and internal customers is key both for internal growth as well as the commercial bank’s loan growth.
