The role:

We are seeking a versatile and detail-oriented Commercial Portfolio Manager to manage a broad scope of responsibilities across the commercial loan lifecycle. This role encompasses commercial loan origination, underwriting, processing, special assets oversight,  and account maintenance. The ideal candidate is a cross-functional financial professional with a deep understanding of commercial credit and loan operations and will support SoFi’s core value including putting our Member’s interests first.

What you’ll do: 

  1. Commercial Lending:  Originate and structure commercial loan products to meet the specific needs of business clients. This involves developing and maintaining strong relationships with borrowers and business partners, as well as conducting client interviews and site visits to assess creditworthiness and business operations.
  2. Underwriting: Analyzing financial statements, tax returns, and cash flow projections. Preparation of a comprehensive credit memoranda and risk assessments for loan approval, ensuring that all underwriting complies with internal credit policies and regulatory standards.
  3. Loan Processing:  Coordinate the end-to-end loan processing, covering documentation, due diligence, and closing. Collaborate with legal, title, insurance, and other third-party service providers to ensure accurate and timely loan closings, and maintain accurate loan files and documentation within the core banking system.
  4. Special Assets & Credit Risk Monitoring:  Manage assigned special assets or problem loans, which includes developing restructuring, workout, or liquidation strategies. Monitor delinquency reports, risk ratings, covenant compliance, and borrower performance, and  assist in developing action plans for high-risk credits, presenting updates to senior management
  5. Account Maintenance:  Responsible for monitoring and updating borrower accounts for changes such as payments, rate adjustments, and renewals. Handle loan servicing inquiries and ensure timely responses to customer requests, while also ensuring ongoing data integrity within the loan servicing and core banking platforms. Consistently identifying solutions to help clients financially while deepening relationships within the bank.
  6. Build strong partnerships with all parties across the organization including local branch team members, internal audit teams, CRA department, ETC.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in commercial lending, credit underwriting, or loan operations.
  • Strong understanding of commercial credit principles, financial analysis, and risk assessment.
  • Experience with loan servicing systems and credit documentation platforms.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Strong communication and relationship management abilities.
  • Familiarity with banking regulations, loan compliance, and special asset management practices.

Nice to have:

  • Master’s Degree in Business Administration.
  • Knowledge of SBA, CRE, C&I, or asset-based lending products with a particular focus on the Multifamily Residential sector.
  • Experience managing problem loan portfolios and developing workout strategies.
  • Prior experience working in a fintech or digital banking environment.
  • Working knowledge of the Google suite of products.
Compensation and Benefits
The base pay range for this role is listed below. Final base pay offer will be determined based on individual factors such as the candidate’s experience, skills, and location.
