The Role
About Anthropic

Anthropic’s mission is to create reliable, interpretable, and steerable AI systems. We want AI to be safe and beneficial for our users and for society as a whole. Our team is a quickly growing group of committed researchers, engineers, policy experts, and business leaders working together to build beneficial AI systems.

About the role

As Policy Analyst, LATAM you will ensure effective execution of complex cross-functional plans that advance key company priorities across Latin America, help the company assess and engage in emerging policy opportunities, and address challenges throughout the region. A key priority will be to engage external stakeholders across LATAM to drive progress in AI policy and AI safety. You will also collaborate with Policy and cross-functional colleagues on a variety of other projects, including strategically expanding our product and policy influence into new LATAM markets, developing new policy proposals, and drafting submissions to requests for comment.

In this role, you will:
  • Contribute to the development of strategies to support Anthropic's LATAM policy objectives, including implementation plans and metrics

  • Support projects to ensure smooth entry to new LATAM markets from a regulatory perspective

  • Propose and develop new programming and generate opportunities for Anthropic to build relationships with policymakers, think tanks, and non-profit organizations across Latin America, with particular focus on Brazil and other key regional markets

  • Create initial policy stakeholder maps and devise strategic engagement plans tailored to LATAM political and regulatory contexts

  • Collaborate with policy and technical teams to translate Anthropic research into concrete policy proposals, stakeholder education, and thought leadership opportunities relevant to LATAM audiences

  • Draft and amplify public submissions, responses to requests for information (RFI), and policy memos written by Anthropic to drive positive change in AI policy across the region

You may be a good fit if you:
  • Are fluent in Portuguese and English (Spanish fluency is also strongly preferred) with the ability to engage policymakers, draft materials, and navigate stakeholder conversations in Portuguese

  • Have a track record of supporting tech and AI policy advocacy in LATAM, with deep familiarity with Brazil's regulatory landscape and broader regional policy dynamics

  • Are a skilled researcher, analyst, and writer

  • Thrive when engaging with governments, policymakers, and civil society to translate complex technical topics into accessible information

  • Know what resources and narratives will be useful for LATAM policymakers to understand and act on a particular issue area

  • Have demonstrated success in identifying and convening stakeholders at a regional level across Latin America

  • Have experience working in a fast-paced, cross-functional and global team

  • Are motivated to better equip LATAM governments to understand the pace of progress in the AI field and develop effective policies

  • Have a deep curiosity for frontier technological research and are eager to work closely with technical colleagues

Strong candidates may also:
  • Have extensive experience engaging government regulatory authorities in Brazil, Mexico, and other major LATAM markets from a private sector perspective

  • Have demonstrated an ability to quickly get up to speed on complex technical areas and policy dynamics

  • Have a background in entrepreneurship; this role will suit people who are excellent at networking from a 'cold start' and who figure out unconventional and effective ways to garner policymaker attention

  • Have existing relationships with LATAM think tanks, civil society organizations, or multilateral institutions working on technology policy

How we're different

We believe that the highest-impact AI research will be big science. At Anthropic we work as a single cohesive team on just a few large-scale research efforts. And we value impact — advancing our long-term goals of steerable, trustworthy AI — rather than work on smaller and more specific puzzles. We view AI research as an empirical science, which has as much in common with physics and biology as with traditional efforts in computer science. We're an extremely collaborative group, and we host frequent research discussions to ensure that we are pursuing the highest-impact work at any given time. As such, we greatly value communication skills.

The easiest way to understand our research directions is to read our recent research. This research continues many of the directions our team worked on prior to Anthropic, including: GPT-3, Circuit-Based Interpretability, Multimodal Neurons, Scaling Laws, AI & Compute, Concrete Problems in AI Safety, and Learning from Human Preferences.
