Comment vous aurez un impact :
 

• Concevoir, développer et exécuter des plans d’essai complets pour les modems optiques enfichables, avec un fort accent sur l’étalonnage optique et les suites de tests de validation.
• Collaborer étroitement avec les ingénieur(e)s en conception matérielle afin d’identifier, d’analyser et de résoudre des problématiques techniques complexes liées à la performance et à la fiabilité.
• Diriger l’évaluation et la sélection de l’instrumentation de test en équilibrant la performance, les coûts et la fiabilité à long terme.
• Travailler en étroite collaboration avec des fournisseurs externes d’instruments pour interpréter les spécifications, résoudre les défis techniques et optimiser les solutions de test.
• Soutenir la préparation à la production en transférant les processus de test et les connaissances de dépannage aux partenaires de fabrication sous contrat.
• Documenter de façon claire et rigoureuse les procédures de test, les résultats et les analyses afin de soutenir les équipes multidisciplinaires.
• Contribuer aux initiatives d’amélioration continue visant à accroître la couverture des tests, l’automatisation et l’efficacité globale.

Exigences essentielles :
 

• Education: Baccalauréat OU Maîtrise en génie électrique, en génie physique ou dans une discipline connexe. ou dans une discipline connexe.
• Experience: 3+ années d’expérience pratique démontrée en mesures optiques et en instrumentation de test optique.
• Expérience éprouvée dans le développement de suites de tests automatisés pour des modules matériels en utilisant des principes de programmation orientée objet.
• Solides compétences analytiques et en résolution de problèmes, avec une approche structurée et méthodique du dépannage.
• Capacité à collaborer efficacement au sein d’équipes d’ingénierie multidisciplinaires.
• Excellentes aptitudes en communication écrite et verbale, de façon claire et professionnelle.
 

Atouts :
 

• Expérience en développement ou en analyse de solutions de test à l’aide de MATLAB.
• Expérience en transfert de processus de test et en soutien dans un environnement de fabrication sous contrat.
• Connaissance des notions de base en gestion de projet dans un contexte d’ingénierie ou de tests.

Ciena is seeking a Pluggable Optical Modem Test Engineer to play a critical role in delivering high-quality, high-performance optical modem solutions that enable next-generation networks. This role has a direct impact on product reliability, manufacturing readiness, and the advancement of optical test methodologies through close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and vendor teams.
 

How you will make an impact:
 

• Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans for pluggable optical modems, with a strong focus on optical calibration and validation test suites.
• Collaborate closely with hardware design engineers to identify, analyze, and resolve complex technical issues impacting performance and reliability.
• Lead evaluation and selection of test instrumentation while balancing performance, cost, and long-term reliability.
• Work closely with external instrument vendors to interpret specifications, address technical challenges, and optimize test solutions.
• Support manufacturing readiness by transferring test processes and troubleshooting knowledge to contract manufacturing partners.
• Document test procedures, results, and analyses clearly and accurately to support cross-functional teams.
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance test coverage, automation, and overall efficiency.
 

The must haves:
 

• Education: Bachelor’s degree OR Master’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Physics, or a related engineering discipline.
• Experience: 3+ years of experience with optical measurements and optical test instrumentation.
• Proven experience developing automated test suites for hardware modules using object-oriented programming principles.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a structured and methodical approach to debugging.
• Ability to collaborate effectively within cross-functional engineering teams.
• Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills.
 

Nice to haves:
 

• Experience developing or analyzing test solutions using MATLAB.
• Exposure to test process transfer and support within a contract manufacturing environment.
• Familiarity with basic project management concepts in an engineering or test setting.
• Knowledge of vendor management best practices in a technical or engineering context.
• Experience contributing to continuous improvement or test methodology optimization initiatives.
 

Pay Range:
 

• The annual pay range for this position is $66,800–$106,600.

Pay ranges at Ciena are designed to accommodate variations in knowledge, skills, experience, market conditions, and locations, reflecting our diverse products, industries, and lines of business. Please note that the pay range information provided in this posting pertains specifically to the primary location, which is the top location listed in case multiple locations are available.

Non-Sales employees may be eligible for a discretionary incentive bonus, while Sales employees may be eligible for a sales commission.
