Platform Engineering Engineer

Amedeus Global Operations is looking for a self-starting, highly motivated, and technically astute candidates with good interpersonal skills and a positive attitude for systems implementation of mid-scale enterprise solutions. The Platform Engineer is responsible for working closely with Development, release engineering, and operations teams to ensure efficient and effective run-time operations availability of platforms and services while maintaining high levels of performance. Managing escalations, and providing technical assistance to the team is expected. The ability to work in a cross-functional development and operations environment with a focus on systems design, management, and monitoring is key to success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate the implementation of new cloud platform components, adhering to agile best practices, CI/CD, and Infrastructure-As-Code methodologies.
  • Collaborate in building tools and processes to support public cloud infrastructure and platforms.
  • Build, administer, and maintain systems in alignment with Service Availability objectives and agreements with internal or external customers.
  • Conduct evidence-based troubleshooting and triaging under high-pressure situations to identify and resolve root causes for service disruptions. Document for problem management and recommend mid-term resolutions.
  • Perform systems analysis to document critical flows and requirements of both new and existing systems.
  • Participate in systems design alongside other team members and architects, promoting shared and common design practices with metrics for cost, performance, capacity, and availability.
  • Develop and maintain processes for recoverability, fail-over, disaster recovery, and business continuity.
  • Manage backup, recovery, and retention of customer data according to contractual and functional requirements.
  • Document and deliver operational-focused monitoring, reporting, and technical guidance to L2 Support.
  • Independently perform basic platform, infrastructure, OS configuration, and/or script changes, with limited or no guidance.
  • Capably perform IT Systems Administration tasks such as Active Directory administration, OS updates/patching, and basic web and network connectivity troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrate autonomy in understanding and completing small or medium-sized work-items, requiring little or no guidance from senior team members. Take ownership and see work through to completion.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the Amadeus business and its relationship to the assigned area.
  • Work with existing procedures or guidelines and provide inputs to support/influence area decisions. Make recommendations on new solutions and propose improvements by analyzing various sources of information.
  • Work with moderate guidance and direction from the manager.
  • Possess a good understanding of designing and implementing monitoring and alert scripts to ensure application reliability, considering SLA, cloud health, and application development perspectives.
  • Approach application troubleshooting and top-tier escalation support systematically, keeping team members and stakeholders informed of progress and impediments.
  • Conduct peer reviews of documentation and/or design, identifying gaps and making sound suggestions.
  • Assist other teams as needed to resolve dependencies, integration points, and create/modify documentation (e.g., Runbooks).
  • Demonstrate strong collaboration and interpersonal skills working within and outside the team.
  • Possess a good understanding of Agile/SAFe processes and feel comfortable making recommendations, pointing stories, and calling out risks.
  • Actively participate in defining and adhering to team iteration and increment commitments.
  • Pursue continuing education at an intermediate-level or higher.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years managing, administering or supporting highly-available hosted environments.
  • 3+ years responsibility for designing, implementing, and maintaining distributed systems.
  • 5+ years experience developing, deploying, and supporting applications in both public cloud and private hosting environments.
  • 3+ years experience with Linux-based web hosting.
  • 3+ years experience with Azure AD and/or Entra ID.
  • 3+ years experience with distributed version control i.e. GitHub, DevOps, TFS, etc. helpful but not required.
  • 3+ years experience facilitating and participating in systems design reviews.
  • 3+ years experience automating deployment of applications using desired state configuration, PowerShell, or other automation languages.
  • 1+ years with containerization technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Container Registries.
  • Aptitude to learn on inexperienced areas

Desirable Technical or Professional Skills:

  • Certification in Microsoft Azure, Windows Server, or Kubernetes
  • Supporting, deploying, or authoring applications in Kubernetes or OpenShift Bachelor's degree in relevant technical field
  • Conceptual understanding of OSI or Five Layer TCP/IP Model
  • Applies systems-thinking to conceptualize, document, and troubleshoot a distributed application
  • Experience with load balancing configuration and automation
