Job
The Platform Engineer designs, builds, and maintains the Simpro platform infrastructure to ensure scalability, reliability, and performance. Operating with a 70% development and 30% platform focus, this role requires a strong software engineering background to build the tools and abstractions that power our systems. The Platform Engineer will automate testing, deployment, and configuration management processes; select appropriate hardware and software components; configure networking and storage resources; and create security policies. What You’ll Do
At Simpro, we build the software that powers the trades and field service industry across Australia, New Zealand, North America, and the UK. Our platform team sits at the heart of that owning the cloud infrastructure, the internal developer platform, and the pipelines that get code from development into production safely and fast.
We're looking for a Platform Engineer who's genuinely comfortable on both sides of the fence: someone who understands how applications work and knows AWS inside out. If you've come from a development background and gravitated toward the infrastructure side of things, this role was probably written for you.
You'll join a team of six based in Brisbane, working directly with development teams across the business to architect, maintain, and improve our AWS cloud environment. That means owning infrastructure-as-code in Terraform, contributing to our Internal Developer Platform (already ~70% built and growing), and helping developers ship services to production quickly and safely. You'll also be part of an on-call rotation so when things go sideways, you'll be the person who knows how to fix it.
What You’ll Bring
Deep, working knowledge of AWS - Lambda, EC2, EKS, RDS, SQS, IAM, SSM, and the broader ecosystem. Not just the concepts, but knowing what breaks and how to fix it.
Kubernetes - cluster management, scaling groups, ports, and production-level troubleshooting
Terraform - we run everything through it, so this is non-negotiable
CI/CD pipeline experience - we use Jenkins, but if you know GitHub Actions or Buildkite, you'll pick it up
PostgreSQL / SQL database fundamentals
A development background, or strong experience working closely with engineering teams on application architecture
Clear communication - you'll be translating between infra and dev teams regularly, and writing RCAs during incident
AWS Solutions Architect certification
Experience with cloud security practices - IAM policies, secrets management, security group design, and compliance controls
Experience with HashiCorp tooling beyond Terraform
Exposure to Internal Developer Platform concepts
Comfort using AI coding tools (Claude Code is part of our workflow) with the judgement to know when not to trust them
The environment
This team moves fast. There are real incidents, real pressure, and a genuine on-call commitment. The flip side is a team culture that's relaxed, collaborative, and not at all corporate. New starters are expected to be in office full-time.
What We Can Offer You
Novated leasing via salary packaging
Employee Assistance Program (24/7 confidential support on relationships, bereavement, finances)
Generous Parental Leave Program
Paid Volunteer Leave Days
Public Holiday Exchange Scheme
