Position Overview
This Platform Engineer role is responsible for the design and architecture of infrastructure systems in the public and private cloud, L3 systems escalation from the Operations Engineering team, and designing/standardizing solutions across the Technology team. The individual will have a strong storage technology understanding and be able to own operational issues. The successful candidate will be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, analyze technical problems and create solutions with existing techniques and tools. The successful candidate will have the drive to work with the Operations Engineering team to implement automation solutions to eliminate recurring problems and to work with other technology teams to propose solutions to needs/issues. An understanding of high-level infrastructure goals and the candidate’s ability to communicate those to other technology teams will be required.
Responsibilities for the Role:
•Manage storage/VMware/server hardware escalations from the Operations Engineering team
-Provide workarounds and fixes to issues that arise.
-Provide Level 2 and Level 3 storage support.
-Create automated processes to address recurring issues that are escalated.
-Educate the team on best practices and fixes to improve self-sufficiency.
•Manage the design and architecture of the storage infrastructure
-Primary responsibility for the storage environment (NetApp, Cisco and Pure) including monitoring solutions like ActiveIQ Unified Manager, Cisco DCNM and Pure1.
-Configure and maintain Cloud Volumes ONTAP and Azure Netapp Files environment.
-Shared responsibility for datacenter server and storage hardware.
•Manage the VMware and Cisco hardware environments
-Monitor the platform to make sure it is running at its best.
-Run Proof of Concepts on modern technologies and suggest improvements for the environment.
-Cisco UCS hardware lifecycle management and firmware management.
•Create Architecture artifacts, like system design diagrams, to support decision making and capture as-is and future states.
•Create and maintain an inventory of the technologies within your remit, including their lifecycle status, overall health, and opportunities for rationalization and cost optimization.
Requirements for the Role:
•Five or more years of related work experience.
•Experience in design, implementation, and maintenance of storage solutions using NetApp and Pure Storage systems, including managing Cisco MDS switches for SAN environments.
•Experience in implementation of Netapp multi-protocol environment.
•Experience in integration of storage solutions with server infrastructure, VMware environments, and Cisco fabric to ensure seamless interoperability and optimized performance across the entire IT ecosystem.
•Strong understanding of infrastructure design and architecture, particularly with Cisco UCS and Azure cloud environments.
•Hands-on experience with Cisco UCS server platform and Cisco Intersight.
•Strong analytical and research skills to troubleshoot problems and spot patterns with issues that arise - must be detail oriented.
•Demonstrated ability to work with a team and troubleshoot problems with speed and accuracy.
•Proficiency in Shell Scripting (Ex. Bash ) or Python is required.
•Open to learn new concepts in areas of technical and business process.
•Capability to effectively interact with both technical and business users on technical matters, often requiring coordination between organizations.
•High energy, positive attitude, professional and mature.
Preferred:
•Experience working with a public cloud (Azure preferred)
•Scripting using Bash, PowerShell, REST, Python.
•Strong understanding of multiple operating systems – Linux and Windows.
•Has worked in a multi-datacenter infrastructure environment. Understands networking concepts in that type of environment.
•Experience implementing and using configuration management tools such as System Center, Puppet, Chef or Ansible.
•Strong SOP writing and documentation for architecture and system design.
•Strong scripting capability around systems integration and management.
•Strong understanding of application virtualization / delivery systems.
•Experience with multiple monitoring methodologies, WMI, SSH, agent based, SNMP and push pull concepts.
•Experience with infrastructure as code development techniques and tools such as Azure DevOps, forking, branching, and pull requests.
