About SailPoint
SailPoint is the leader in identity security for the cloud enterprise. Our identity security solutions secure and enable thousands of companies worldwide, giving our customers unmatched visibility into the entirety of their digital workforce, ensuring workers have the right access to do their job – no more, no less.
Our platform, powered by AI and machine learning, is built to keep up with the fast pace of modern business by getting the right access to the right people at the right time.
About the Role
As a Platform Engineer - AI Tooling, you'll be at the heart of what makes our Identity Security Cloud platform scalable and reliable by empowering our engineering teams. You'll dive into researching, designing, and building the internal platform tools that enable other engineers to seamlessly execute functional and non-functional testing for features of all sizes. This role is a great opportunity to join an innovative team and help us build out a world-class, AI-powered engineering tooling ecosystem as a first-class deliverable.
What We're Looking For
AI Tooling Skills (Mandatory): You have real-world experience using AI developer tools like Claude Code, Cursor, or similar to write, debug, and improve code. You're comfortable using these tools to build platforms that help other engineers dig into functional and performance data, find potential bottlenecks, and tune systems.
Professional Experience: You have 2-4 years of hands-on experience working as a platform, performance, or software engineer building internal tools.
AI-First Tooling Strategies: You can independently research and develop platform features designed to work well with large language models (LLMs). You build tools that generate LLM-friendly outputs, like markdown files, that AI can easily use to assist the engineering org in their test planning and execution.
Proactive Problem Solving: You have a history of using AI to make testing and development more efficient. You enjoy finding new ways to improve internal platforms and can think strategically about integrating AI agents or swarms into our tooling to solve complex functional and performance bottlenecks in parallel for your fellow engineers.
Team Player and Mentor: You're great at sharing what you've learned and can influence people beyond your immediate group. You enjoy mentoring other engineers and driving the adoption of the platforms you build, especially by showing them how to use AI-assisted tooling (like skills, hooks, commands, and agents) to become more productive.
Technical Foundation: You have a strong background in large-scale, distributed systems in a cloud environment (AWS is a plus) and understand microservice architecture and CI/CD tools like Docker and Kubernetes to build robust platform infrastructure.
Quality-oriented mindset: You can ensure correctness and modularity in the platforms you build with type-checked functional programming. For example, we’ve enjoyed using TypeScript’s Effect library and Hegel’s property-based testing.
Advanced AI Orchestration: You can maximize the value of AI outputs, saving time without reducing quality. You can move beyond prototyping and constrain agents to meet precise specifications in the tools you deliver. You have a holistic view of AI agent orchestration that goes beyond Markdown files to deliver fully integrated platform experiences.
Your First Year at SailPoint
In the first 30 days, you'll:
Get up to speed with our products, technology, and current internal platform projects.
Meet the team and start jumping into collaborative work.
Begin evaluating our current functional and non-functional testing tools, finding opportunities to embed AI as a core component of the platform for other engineers to consume.
By 90 days, you'll be:
Making a real impact on the team’s goals by building and shipping AI-driven tooling solutions for the engineering organization.
Using tools like Claude Code and Cursor to speed up your own platform development and data analysis.
Joining in on technical discussions and helping us find smart, scalable architectural solutions for our internal tools.
After 6 months, you'll have:
Successfully delivered AI-powered tools that help engineers proactively find functional and performance issues before they happen, providing clear, actionable insights.
Become a trusted, reliable member of the team who delivers quality platform features consistently.
Helped foster a culture of learning by sharing your knowledge and expertise on AI tooling with the broader engineering organization.
By the end of your first year, you'll:
Have successfully deployed AI-powered platform tools that are now fully integrated into the daily routines of our engineering teams.
Use data and AI-driven insights to measure the impact of your tools and help continuously improve our broader engineering processes.
Be a key player in the team's success and a mentor to other engineers on building and utilizing advanced AI agents.
