In-Plant Safety Supervisor

Position Summary

The Supervisor, In-Plant Safety is responsible for the day-to-day implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement of environmental, health, safety, and security programs at an assigned in-plant operation. This position serves as the primary on-site resource for workplace safety and environmental compliance. 

Working closely with site management, operations personnel, employees, and client representatives, the Supervisor promotes safe and compliant work practices, identifies and mitigates workplace hazards, facilitates training, investigates incidents, monitors compliance, and drives corrective and preventive actions.

This is a hands-on, site-based role requiring a strong presence in operational areas and regular interaction with employees. The position supports the application of established Quantix SCS policies, procedures, Responsible Care commitments, client requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.

Primary Responsibilities

Safety & Regulatory Compliance

• Support and promote safe work practices in alignment with Quantix SCS commitments, policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
• Serve as an on-site resource regarding OSHA, EPA, and other environmental, health, and safety regulatory requirements applicable to the operation.
• Monitor site activities for compliance with established safety and environmental policies, procedures, and programs.
• Conduct daily, weekly, monthly, and other scheduled safety inspections and audits of operational processes, work practices, facilities, and equipment.
• Identify compliance gaps and unsafe conditions or behaviors and work with operations to develop and implement appropriate corrective actions.
• Maintain required EHS documentation and assist with internal, client, and regulatory audits or inspections.

Risk Assessment & Hazard Prevention

• Perform risk assessments, hazard assessments, workplace inspections, and safety observations to identify potential employee exposures and operational risks.
• Recommend and support corrective and preventive actions to eliminate or reduce identified hazards.
• Periodically review written Work Procedures, Job Hazard Assessments (JHAs), and related documentation to verify identified hazards are appropriately addressed and actual work practices align with documented procedures.
• Work with operations personnel to ensure safety requirements are incorporated into routine and non-routine work.
• Assist Site Managers and operations leadership in evaluating projects, process changes, equipment changes, and other activities that may affect employee safety or environmental compliance.

Incident Investigation & Corrective Action

• Lead or participate in investigations involving employee injuries, near misses, property damage, environmental deviations, and other safety-related incidents.
• Conduct root cause analysis using appropriate methodologies, such as 5-Why analysis.
• Partner with operations personnel to identify appropriate corrective and preventive actions.
• Track assigned corrective actions through completion and verify that actions effectively address identified causes and risks.
• Identify recurring incident trends and recommend opportunities for prevention and continuous improvement.

Safety Training

• Facilitate required safety, health, and environmental training for Quantix personnel at the assigned location.
• Serve as the site training coordinator for EHS training administered through Paylocity or other designated company systems.
• Conduct employee safety orientations, toolbox talks, refresher training, and other safety awareness activities.
• Monitor employee training completion and maintain required training documentation.
• Develop or adapt site-level training materials as necessary to reinforce established company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
• Support supervisors and managers in reinforcing training requirements and safe work practices in the field.

Safety Culture & Employee Engagement

• Maintain a visible and active presence throughout the facility and operational work areas.
• Engage employees regarding safe work practices and provide timely coaching and feedback when opportunities are identified.
• Promote employee participation in hazard identification, near-miss reporting, and safety improvement activities.
• Support and reinforce behavior-based safety programs and initiatives.
• Oversee site employee participation and progress within the Quantix SCS Safety InSight Program and provide progress updates to management as requested.
• Support a culture of accountability in which employees understand their responsibility for workplace safety and environmental performance.

Environmental & Responsible Care

• Support compliance with applicable environmental policies, procedures, permits, and regulatory requirements.
• Assist in maintaining environmental monitoring, documentation, and recordkeeping systems in accordance with Quantix SCS policies and federal, state, and local requirements.
• Support spill prevention, waste management, pollution prevention, and environmental incident response activities.
• Lead or support site efforts to reduce waste and scrap through root cause correction, waste reduction, reuse, and recycling initiatives, as applicable.
• Support the continual improvement of Responsible Care programs and initiatives.
• Support the continual improvement of Quantix SCS commitments associated with Operation Clean Sweep Blue.

Emergency Preparedness & Response

• Serve as a key site safety resource during emergency situations.
• Coordinate or support site emergency response activities in accordance with established emergency response plans.
• Coordinate required emergency response training, exercises, and drills.
• Document drill results, identified deficiencies, and corrective actions.
• Support communication with site management, EHS&S leadership, client representatives, and emergency response resources as appropriate.

Reporting, Documentation & Continuous Improvement

• Compile, maintain, and track documentation required by company EHS programs, including incident investigations, inspection records, audits, JHAs, training records, and corrective actions.
• Maintain accurate site safety and environmental monitoring and recordkeeping systems.
• Track required site EHS performance metrics.
• Ensure required metrics and reports are accurate, complete, and communicated to management in a timely manner.
• Analyze site-level trends and identify opportunities to improve safety and environmental performance.
• Support implementation of company best practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Operational & Client Collaboration

• Build effective working relationships with client representatives, Site Managers, Operations Managers, supervisors, employees, and EHS&S leadership.
• Work closely with the local operations team to ensure established safety procedures are effectively applied in the field.
• Provide practical safety guidance that supports both regulatory compliance and operational requirements.
• Participate in client meetings, safety meetings, operational reviews, and other site activities as appropriate.
• Communicate significant safety or environmental concerns to site and EHS&S leadership in a timely manner.
• Perform administrative or operational duties as necessary to support the local operation.
• Participate in company, client, and site continuous improvement initiatives.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or Industrial Technology.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of relevant EHS/Safety experience, preferably in an industrial, manufacturing, chemical, warehouse, logistics, or in-plant environment.
• Working knowledge of OSHA requirements and general industrial safety practices.
• Familiarity with EPA and applicable environmental compliance requirements.
• Experience conducting safety inspections, hazard assessments, incident investigations, and root cause analysis.
• Experience developing, reviewing, or implementing Job Hazard Assessments and safe work procedures.
• Demonstrated ability to identify hazards and work collaboratively with operations personnel to implement practical corrective actions.
• Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to effectively train, coach, and influence frontline employees and operational leadership.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities, maintain accurate documentation, and follow corrective actions through completion.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, and Planner, and the ability to use software systems to track, analyze, and report information.
• Ability to work in an active industrial environment and regularly spend time in plant and operational work areas.

• Experience with behavior-based safety programs.
• Experience facilitating employee training and speaking before groups.
• Experience with Responsible Care or a similar EHS&S management system.
• Experience with Operation Clean Sweep or Operation Clean Sweep Blue.
• Experience with Learning Management Systems (LMS), including Paylocity.
• Experience working directly with client representatives in an outsourced, contract, or in-plant services environment.
• Experience in facilities that manufacture, handle, package, or process plastic powders, flakes, pellets, or similar materials.
