Position Summary:
We are seeking a proven leader to take full operational and strategic ownership of our Cardington manufacturing facility. The Plant Manager will serve as the principal functional leader for Cardington Operations, responsible for achieving critical company goals related to safety, profitability, quality, and customer service. This highly visible role requires a hands-on, results-driven professional to manage all manufacturing, logistics, and support functions within a fast-paced, high-mix/low-volume production environment.
Essential Duties:
Strategic & Operational Leadership:
- Technical Process Command: Utilize comprehensive knowledge of sheet metal manufacturing variables to drive site-wide operational success. Translate technical fabrication requirements into actionable production strategies that maintain high quality and On-Time Delivery.
- Operational Direction: Provide functional direction and leadership to all plant resources, including Production, Production Planning & Scheduling, EHS, Receiving/Warehouse/Shipping, Maintenance, and Process/Plant Engineering.
- Capacity Planning: Translate business forecasts into actionable production plans with clear metrics, leading capacity planning, resource allocation, and plant expansion projects.
- Implementation: Oversee daily manufacturing operations, ensuring strict compliance with production schedules, quality standards, and customer delivery deadlines (OTD) by liaising closely with Sales and Customer Service.
- Asset Management: Manage all plant assets, including the building, grounds, and machinery, ensuring optimal utilization and preventative maintenance.
Continuous Improvement & Cost Control:
- Process Excellence: Champion a rigorous culture of continuous improvement utilizing strong knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and other process improvement methodologies.
- Cost Reduction: Identify and drive cost-reduction projects without compromising safety or product quality.
- Collaborative Budgeting: participative in budget management process, engaging department heads in the preparation and oversight of the annual production budget (labor, materials, and etc.) to ensure operational alignment and fiscal accountability.
- Performance Monitoring: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), scrap rates, downtime, and labor utilization, and develop systems to analyze variances.
Safety, Quality & Compliance:
- EHS Mandate: Work closely with our EHS Manager to establish and sustain a best-in-class safe and clean working environment in full compliance with OSHA regulations and internal corporate standards.
- Regulatory Oversight: Successfully handle audits by customers and various certifying and regulatory agencies (e.g., UL, ISO, ATEX/IEC).
People & Culture Management :
- Talent Development: Work closely with the HR department on the hiring, training, coaching, and continuous development of manufacturing staff, supervisors, and administrative personnel, including conducting regular performance evaluations.
- Culture Building: Set the example for professionalism, positive attitude, and productivity, cultivating a teamwork-based environment conducive to long-term growth and accountability.
- Collaboration: Collaborate with HR on matters related to employment, compensation, organizational development, and labor relations/negotiations (where applicable).

Required Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing leadership role.
- Industry Expertise: Proven experience in metal fabrication (Sheetmetal preferred) within a high-mix/low-volume, fast-paced production environment.
- Education: Some college education or significant post-high school training is required.
- Leadership: Exceptional leadership, communication, and decision-making skills with a proven track record of talent development and managing cross-functional teams.
- Software: Proficiency with Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Sheet Metal Fabrication processes and variables that impact success.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (BS/BA) in Engineering, Manufacturing Management, or a related technical discipline.
- Familiarity with CAD/CNC software.
- Experience with ELP/MRP systems.
- Specialized Experience: Proven experience in the fabrication of Sheet Metal Electrical Enclosures is a significant plus.
Knowledge and Skills Preferred:
- Requires working knowledge of the manufacturing process and variables that impact success, i.e., concepts related to capacity, planning/scheduling the factory, quality control/assurance disciplines, measuring direct/indirect labor performance, planning, and controlling inventory, material procurement, etc.
- Requires individual with strong conceptual and analytical skills, organization and problem-solving ability, verbal and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills. Must be a team player with staff colleagues and a developer of teamwork skills within the departments supervised.

Physical Requirements and Environmental ConditionsPhysical Requirements:
- Stamina & Mobility: Ability to maintain peak performance during extended shifts that require a balanced mix of standing and walking the production floor, as well as sedentary office work.
- Visual & Digital Analysis: Capable of prolonged periods of focus on computer screens, technical charts, and complex data graphs.
- Dexterity: Ability to perform repetitive motions and tasks required for operational oversight and administrative duties.
- Manual Handling: Ability to safely lift, move, and transport materials or objects weighing up to 25 lbs. as needed.
Environmental Conditions:
- Shop Floor Presence: Ability to collaborate effectively with team members in a dynamic manufacturing environment that may involve exposure to industrial noise.
- Safety & Compliance: Strict adherence to all safety protocols, including the consistent use of required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear while on the production floor.
- Climate Control: Work is performed in a mix of climate-controlled office settings and non-climate-controlled manufacturing areas.
