Fluidra’s looking for a Plant Manager to join our team at our CoverPools facility in West Valley City, UT.
WHAT YOU WILL CONTRIBUTE
As the Plant Manager for CoverPools (CPI), this individual will manage and direct the company’s overall operations for our two plants—West Coast (Salt Lake City (SLC)—UT) identify as our core legacy location and our new East Coast (Youngstown—OH) operating as a satellite start up, with the intent to mirror the same pool cover offerings as SLC.
The SLC location manufactures and assembles fabrics, mechanisms and parts for custom pool covers, as well as inground pool cleaning systems and fire and water hardscape products. In addition to the above operations, the site has customer service, engineering, product management and back-office functions.
The overall perimeter includes (not exhaustive): manufacturing, logistics, maintenance, supply chain, purchasing, sourcing, quality, safety, inventory, technical data, IT systems, customer service, human resources, new products introduction and operating cost management.
Some functions will be managed as direct reports, and some will be managed with strong support from our headquarters (quality, safety, finance, human resources, engineering, sourcing, customer service). A strong partnership with business leadership, the sales team and marketing is expected to succeed in the position.
CONTEXT
- The pool cover business is experiencing strong growth driven by the recent high consumer demand for pools as well as favorable safety and energy conservation trends.
- The market demand exceeds current capacity, a strong focus on efficiency, capacity and customer communication will be critical.
- The pool cover market expects very short lead time (less than 48 hours) in a context of a highly customized product (all covers are 100% made to order).
- The business has invested in a new East Coast (Youngstown—OH) facility. Production is expected to start in November to support our growth.
- The overall company operates under a highly customized version of Navision. A full assessment of the tool (implementation and processes) will be a key factor of success.
The Plant Manager will be responsible for developing and establishing overall operating plans and objectives that will ensure operating results are consistent with the company’s strategic plan and business forecast. The Plant Manager needs to demonstrate natural strong leadership capabilities and take full ownership for the overall site with full autonomy to drive daily output in accordance with our business and customers’ expectations, while always respecting our values (quality, safety and people).
The Plant Manager will be expected to create a strong and disciplined high performing leadership team. This team will function cohesively and be aligned in achieving its mission and expected results, through clear and focused objectives, that will be measured on a regular basis. This leader will have full responsibility and autonomy to design the adequate organization and KPI structure.
The Plant Manager is accountable for the major KPI’s of the sites (service level, inventory, cost, quality, safety, turnover, scrap). Additionally, you will:
Vision & Leadership
- Lead and transform the Covers business operations into a world class, high performing facility.
- Articulate a clear operational vision to ensure continuous improvements, results measurement and personal accountability to underpin performance and success.
- Oversee the sites production operations to ensure business efficiency and cost-effective management of resources.
- Prepare and present KPI scorecards with accompanying issues, opportunities and corrective action plans to functional and business leadership.
- Evaluate and assess existing production and planning processes to identify, prioritize and execute transformational changes.
- Lead by example and demonstrate Fluidra core values in your actions.
- Support and implement manufacturing strategies in alignment with the company’s strategic initiatives and provide a clear sense of direction and focus
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment through the development of safety practices and training for all employees. Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and maintenance of safety and training records.
Planning & Execution
- Direct all manufacturing support functions of the sites, including manufacturing, production planning, assembly operations, quality assurance, purchasing, shipping and receiving to ensure that established operational and financial objectives are met.
- Plan, organize, direct and run optimum day-to-day operations to exceed our customers’ expectations.
- Champion an environment of continuous improvement through increased production, assets capacity and flexibility while minimizing unnecessary costs and maintaining current quality standards
- Lead manufacturing employees in the development of aggressive annual plans and continuous improvement programs to reduce manufacturing cost, increase productivity, and ensure chosen levels of quality.
- Monitor and report on key operational metrics such as cost, inventory levels, fulfillment, productivity, quality performance and warranty costs. Direct regular reviews of operational performance and provide appropriate feedback to team members on results. Ensure corrective action is taken to restore the integrity of the operating plan.
Human Capital Management
- Create an environment that attracts and produces high level talent
- Perform a talent review including identification of A players and under-performers (Take timely action with underperformers.
- Develop and review objectives (scorecards) regularly with the team, ensuring team members know expectations and key deliverables
- Work closely with team members to optimize their engagement with the mission and vision that leads to the success of the company. Set the tone for the culture and leads by example.
- Holds the operational team accountable for results, drives a sense of urgency and winning mentality across the team
- Fosters a culture of honest and constructive feedback, dispelling any victimhood when challenges arise
- Spends time on the operational site floor and with the onsite functional teams immersing themself with the team and process to drive transformation.
Financial Management
- Understands and measures actual operational cost variances versus plan. Sets into motion action plans to address underperformance
- Provides data driven analysis (Including ROI) for capital investments and is held accountable to measure outcomes versus plan
- Partners with finance team to understand production and site economics.

WHAT WE SEEK
- 5 + years’ experience working in plant operations required
- Expertise with assembly manufacturing industry, standard equipment and technical knowledge is preferred
- Adequate knowledge of business and management principles (budgeting, strategic planning, resource allocation and human resources)
- Be knowledgeable of safety, quality, productivity, demand creation, inventory and stewardship processes
- Ability to create accountability and to lead by example
- Strong team building, decision-making and people management skills
- Proficiency with MS Office tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
EDUCATION
- Bachelor’s degree in Operations, Supply Chain Management or related field
