Job Purpose
The Planning Engineer will oversee the Project planning, scheduling, progress reporting process.
This is a PMC role, and there will be multiple Supervision Consultants and EPC`s appointed directly by the Client. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing planning and scheduling requirements on the large-scale power and water transmission projects in Abu Dhabi. This role involves strategic planning, resource management, and collaboration with various stakeholders to meet project objectives, timelines, and budget constraints.
Job Responsibilities
· Schedule Development & Maintenance
o Build and maintain Primavera P6 schedules (Baselines, Updates, Recovery/Acceleration plans, What-If scenarios).
o Develop activity coding structures aligned to WBS/OBS, calendars, and resource/cost loading principles.
o Perform logic checks, critical path analysis (CPA), and near-critical path monitoring.
· Progress Measurement & Reporting
o Implement progress measurement systems (earned value, physical progress curves, progress S-curves).
o Prepare weekly and monthly planning reports: lookahead schedules, progress narratives, variance analyses, milestone tracking.
o Generate dashboards and visuals using Power BI (e.g., SPI/CPI trends, milestone heatmaps, risked dates).
· Cost & Cash Flow Support (Basic)
o Coordinate with cost engineers to cost-load schedules, align to CBS, and produce time-phased cash flows.
o Compare planned vs. actual costs at a summary level to highlight variances affecting schedule.
Qualifications
· Bachelor’s degree in related field.
· 5+ years
· Proven experience in a similar role.
Technical Skills
· Primavera P6 EPPM/Professional: calendars, resources, activity coding, baselining, TIA basics, layouts.
· Power BI: data import/transform, measures (DAX), visuals (KPIs, S-curves).
· Excel: pivots, charts, lookups, what-if analysis; SharePoint for data collaboration.
· Understanding of EPC workflows, construction sequencing.
· Familiarity with EOT principles and schedule impact documentation.
Soft Skills
· Analytical with strong attention to detail and data quality.
· Clear and concise communicator, able to produce executive-ready visuals and narratives.
· Proactive, organized, and able to manage multiple workstreams and deadlines.
· Collaborative mindset with consultants, contractors, and internal stakeholders.
Skills Required
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field
- At least 5 years of experience
- Proven experience in a similar planning or scheduling role
- Experience with Primavera P6 EPPM or Professional, including scheduling, baselines, activity coding, resources, calendars, and layouts
- Experience with Power BI, including data transformation, DAX measures, KPI visuals, and S-curves
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivots, charts, lookups, and what-if analysis
- Understanding of EPC workflows and construction sequencing
- Familiarity with extension-of-time principles and schedule impact documentation
