This position supports planning projects through research, data analysis, modeling, visualization, and documentation, and collaborates with interdisciplinary team members from concept development through project completion.
What You’ll Do:
- Research data sources, gathers data, and conducts analysis of data for use in projects.
- Identifies planning and analysis strategies using tools such as GIS, traffic, or safety software to manipulate data, assess scenarios and perform project analysis.
- Investigates and evaluates the planning processes and technical solutions that best meet the project needs.
- Coordinates internally and externally with project team members, including other discipline areas involved with the project.
- Prepares maps, exhibits, and presentation materials for projects.
- Conducts research on issues, policies, and concepts pertaining to planning.
- Assists in the development of conceptual planning alternatives for urban and transportation planning projects.
- Drafts sections of and performs tasks related to the preparation and production of plans, studies, reports, and environmental documents for transportation and infrastructure projects.
- May participate in public process and stakeholder facilitation.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 2 years of relevant experience, or
- Master's Degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Engineering or related field and 1 year of relevant experience
What You’ll Bring:
- Uses planning software, GIS tools, and analytical workflows with increased proficiency to support complex technical analyses.
- Performs data mining, cleaning, transformation, and aggregation to prepare datasets for modeling, forecasting, and scenario evaluation.
- Uses GIS tools to create, maintain, and analyze spatial datasets; prepares maps, dashboards, and visualizations to support planning and decision-making.
- Develops data-driven insights by identifying trends, relationships, patterns, and anomalies in large datasets.
- Recognizes which research resources to use; assesses findings for the relevance for the project; compiles and analyzes the data for more experienced staff to review.
- Contributes to technical reports, summaries, and presentation materials by translating analytical findings into clear, actionable insights.
- Applies scripting or analytical tools (e.g., Python, SQL, R) to automate workflows, enhance analysis, or build reproducible processes, where appropriate.
- Collaborates with interdisciplinary teams to support planning, engineering, GIS, data science, and operational initiatives.
What We Prefer:
- Master's degree in Urban Planning or related field.

The approximate pay range for San Diego, Sacramento and Inland Empire, CA is $73,047.47 - $109,571.20. Please note that the pay range provided is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting.
