Supports urban design and transportation planning project teams under close supervision. Responsibilities include basic research and data collection, maintaining project records and files, and assisting with graphics, presentations, and reports. The intern will support infrastructure-related assignments in HNTB’s Austin or San Antonio offices during the Summer 2027 program.

Supports the design and delivery of rail communications systems, including fiber optic networks, CCTV, access control, public address, passenger information, wireless, and train control systems. Prepares engineering plans, specifications, calculations, reports, quantities, and cost estimates; conducts research, data collection, field investigations, and design development. Collaborates with project teams, manages assigned tasks and schedules, and supports design file organization and project delivery.

Leads mechanical engineering design for commercial, institutional, and infrastructure projects from concept through construction close-out. Performs HVAC load and duct design, equipment selection, plumbing and fire protection design, hydraulic analysis, controls documentation, code compliance, design reviews, and quality assurance. Coordinates multidisciplinary teams, manages scope, schedules, budgets, and client relationships, provides technical direction and mentoring, prepares reports and presentations, and supports proposals and marketing.

Serves as the HR partner for business leaders and employees across assigned offices. Provides guidance on HR policies, employee relations, performance management, talent planning, compensation, compliance, workforce changes, and leadership development. Analyzes HR data, compensation, turnover, and engagement trends to recommend improvements. Implements HR programs, supports training and succession planning, resolves workplace issues, and reports progress to HR leadership. Requires up to 30% travel.

Serves as the primary HR partner for business leaders and employees across assigned offices. Provides guidance on HR policies, employee relations, performance management, talent and succession planning, compensation, compliance, training, workforce planning, and organizational change. Analyzes HR data, compensation, engagement, and turnover trends to recommend improvements. Supports HR programs and reports progress to leadership. Requires up to 30% travel.

Supports public engagement and project teams with administrative tasks, reports, data analysis, research, meeting participation, document editing, communications, and special projects under close supervision. The intern may prepare materials, track results, coordinate activities, respond to inquiries, and assist management with data and research. The role is intended for students pursuing communications, policy, government relations, planning, or a related field.

Provide financial guidance across project lifecycles including budgeting, profitability analysis, cash and invoice management, revenue recognition, forecasting EAC, variance investigation, and contract compliance. Support billing, generate reports, escalate performance issues, mentor associates, and collaborate with project managers and cash teams to optimize financial performance.

Assists engineering teams with design calculations, technical reports, plans, specifications, quantity and cost estimates, research, data collection, field investigations, and project file organization. Supports conceptual and detailed infrastructure project designs using engineering software and established technical criteria. Completes assigned work within project schedules and contributes to successful project delivery. This opportunity is limited to current or former HNTB interns.

Assists with drainage design and engineering deliverables for transportation infrastructure projects. Prepares and modifies plans, specifications, reports, calculations, quantities, and cost estimates. Conducts research, data collection, field investigations, and technical design using OpenRoads Designer, AutoCAD Civil 3D, StormWise, and HEC-RAS. Supports stormwater management, floodplain compensation, storm drains, ditches, culverts, bridge hydraulics, and scour analysis.

Leads a traffic and safety engineering section of approximately 6–8 engineers, overseeing staffing, budgets, technical delivery, project management, client satisfaction, marketing support, recruiting, mentoring, and professional development. Performs and reviews traffic and safety analysis, reports, designs, specifications, and construction-related deliverables while coordinating transportation engineering projects and supporting strategic planning, contracting, and quality processes.

Leads engineering and design projects from scope and contract development through delivery, managing budgets, schedules, technical requirements, staffing, risks, client communications, and quality objectives. Serves as primary client liaison, supervises and mentors project teams, supports business development and proposal efforts, and oversees project staffing, performance, and succession planning. The role is assigned full time to the client office in DeLand, Florida.

Assists engineering teams with research, development, project design, engineering drawings, documents, basic calculations, and shop drawing or submittal procedures. The role is intended for current or former HNTB interns enrolled in an accredited post-secondary engineering program, with a preference for completing two years of study.

Manages stormwater engineering projects from proposal and contract development through delivery, overseeing scope, budget, schedule, quality, technical requirements, risks, client communications, and multidisciplinary teams. Leads project plans, design reviews, staffing, mentoring, contract negotiations, business development, proposals, and client presentations. Coordinates internal teams and subconsultants while supporting successful delivery of complex infrastructure projects.

Assists engineering teams with research, project development, design, engineering calculations, drawings, documents, shop drawings, and submittals for roadway, bridge, and civil infrastructure projects. The role requires current enrollment in an accredited post-secondary engineering program and basic engineering, geometric, algebraic, and documentation skills. AutoCAD or MicroStation experience is preferred. Relocation and housing are not provided.

Supports project invoicing and finance teams by preparing accurate, contract-compliant invoice packages, reconciling costs and revenue, tracking accounts receivable, managing subconsultant payments, monitoring outstanding balances, and maintaining billing reports. The role requires coordination with project managers and finance staff, adherence to FAR and GSA regulations, and careful review of client billing terms and documentation.

Provides broad administrative support for office staff, including calendar and meeting coordination, travel arrangements, correspondence, mail distribution, visitor reception, reports, records, expense reports, invoice processing, inventory, office moves, facilities coordination, and vehicle fleet tracking. Supports policy and procedure updates and may deliver new-hire orientation.

Leads risk management and project controls for major transit infrastructure programs. Develops risk processes, facilitates workshops, maintains risk registers, performs qualitative and quantitative analyses including Monte Carlo simulations, and recommends contingency and mitigation strategies. Provides expertise across estimating, scheduling, cost control, change management, claims support, dashboards, and project management control systems. Advises clients and project teams, supports negotiations, and mentors project controls staff.
