Pipe Fabrication Tacker
The Shaw Group is seeking an experienced Pipe Fabrication Tacker to join our fabrication team at the Beaumont Shop. Our Pipe Fabrication Tackers weld, fabricate, and assist pipefitters in building piping assemblies for industrial projects. We’re looking for candidates with strong heavy-shop fabrication experience.
This position does not offer Per Diem.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Successfully pass the on-site test:
GTAW 2” schedule 40 in a 6G position - Weld out to flush
- Must pass visual inspection
- Must have prior pipe fabrication experience in an industrial shop setting (heavy shop background strongly preferred)
- Must be proficient in GTAW (TIG) welding on pipe
- Must be able to pass the required weld test described above
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting WPS (Welding Procedure Specifications)
- Must be able to meet all physical requirements
- Ability to work safely and effectively as part of a fabrication crew
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
- Reliable work history with a strong, demonstrated work ethic
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Obtains specified filling medal pending job schedule.
- Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by Welding Engineer
- Starts power supply to produce electric current
- Strikes arc which generates heat to make and deposit metal from electrode to work piece and join edges of work piece
- Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical, or overhead positions
- Will clean, degrease weld joint or work piece using grinder, using wire brush, ETC
- May repair broken or cracked parts and fill holes
- May preheat work piece, using hand torch or rose bud
- May position and clamp work pieces together or assemble them in jig or fixture
- May tack assemblies together
- May cut metal plates or structural shapes
- May be required to pass employer performance tests or standard tests to meet certification standards of governmental agencies or professional and technical associations
- Performing only those jobs on which they have been trained and/or authorized
- Working in accordance with safe job practices and complying with company safety rules

- Reporting unsafe conditions or practices
- Cooperating during investigation of any accidents that occur

Skills Required
- Pass the on-site GTAW/TIG weld test on 2-inch Schedule 40 pipe in the 6G position, welding out to flush
- Pass visual inspection
- Prior pipe fabrication experience in an industrial shop setting
- Heavy-shop fabrication experience
- Proficiency in GTAW/TIG welding on pipe
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting Welding Procedure Specifications
- Ability to meet all physical requirements
