Description of Work

This position is located at North Carolina Correctional Institution for Women (NCCIW) in Raleigh, North Carolina. NCCIW serves as the flagship facility for female offenders in the state. It functions as the primary processing center for the majority of newly incarcerated individuals and also houses pretrial detainees. The institution has the capacity to house approximately 1,700 female offenders and provides primary support to the state's other female facilities.
The Physician serves as the lead clinical authority responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, on-site healthcare services to incarcerated individuals. Duties will include one or more designated institutions in the South-Central Region. This role requires advanced diagnostic expertise, sound medical judgment, and up-to-date knowledge of clinical practices and technologies. The physician oversees healthcare operations within the region, ensuring compliance with standards and providing guidance to medical staff to support safe and effective patient care.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Range: $147,932 - $295,863

Key Responsibilities:

  • Documented experience delivering comprehensive primary care services, including acute and chronic medical treatment, preventive care, and health education for incarcerated individuals.

  • Demonstrated knowledge to evaluate and treat a wide range of internal medicine conditions, performs minor office-based surgical procedures, and refers complex cases to specialists.

  • Ability to conduct sick calls, emergency response, chronic disease clinics, physical exams, and follow-up care, while documenting all patient interactions in the HERO system.

  • Ability to collaborates closely with nursing staff to ensure coordinated, effective healthcare delivery across all areas of the facility.
